I read another article; can't remember if I posted it here. But the illegal logging was really limited to one village out of thirty-some, I believe. They're not sure if it's the villagers or loggers coming in from elsewhere doing it. But if it's only one village that's having a problem, it sounds like they can do something about that. Monarch Watch is still predicting a larger migration than last year.

Just from what I have seen here in my neck of the woods, the numbers are definitely up this year. I have seen way more Monarchs this summer and still seeing them everywhere.

I don't expect to see as many in September this month as I have been ,
2 or 3 a day since mid July ,I have seen and been showing ,year before last
about 7 and no cats at all was all I saw ,
If a good Migration population comes through here ,I will have seen nearly a thousand ,
Might make half that 25 million of their about usual numbers ,
Still their only secure if places made for them to populate and hibernate are secure , I have been watching since 1980's , the Habitat discussion ,

Hi everyone! I told you I would mark my calendars and remind you that on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 8 pm EST, you need to tune in to Nat Geo Wild for their show "Destination Wild". This episode's description is as follows: “Disney Nature: Wings of Life” Premieres Sunday, September 13 at 8 p.m. EST Meryl Streep narrated this 90-minute special about winged creatures. “Wings of Life” gives an intimate and unprecedented look at butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, bats and flowers. A third of the world’s food supply depends on them, and they are increasingly threatened."

Bird, butterflies, bees, and Meryl Streep! This is a 90 minute special so adjust the rest of your life as needed. I'll be posting this in all the monthly and ongoing threads because we all need to watch this! Feel free to tell other forums, too!

Yes! I agree .... blocking the use of that pesticide is LONG overdue! I hope the bees can recover and make a comeback!

Yeah, let's kill all the Monarchs off and then say, "Oops!" like they do after the oil spills out in the Gulf.

Yeah, I like that the article had the part where the person was saying how unnecessary that was. Like we don't know now what kind of impact it's having on the Monarchs (and other friends)?

Business interests come before people's interests and so many people don't even consider the environment important at all. Grumbling

Reading here i was taking the mood that doing business is not always what it is about , One thing that comes to mind is this , for some of us that have been around a while , remembering all the ditches and roadside drainage areas that use to have been , You could drive through any city , along any road , and their would be wildflowers and plants for forage ,
Because of mosquitoes , and people , when roads are built , houses are built , most places now are flat , from road to door , one small example that has a huge impact on wildlife ,
That four or five feet that is not there any longer across this entire country, sprayed for at least 4 decades , has had to have impact ,
One of those little things .
Every time a new or old gardener , sets in a butterfly garden , it is a good , But in the view I just expressed , it is like gas a station on millions of miles of road , it helps , but it is not a solve ,
However ,if the weigh stations for the critters last ,it is and will have an impact ,

you know , proof reading this about so brief a thought, about such a small thing , makes me sound really long winded , Blinking Hilarious!

Realizing I stray this thread some , however it is what the news is about when here ,
Then again when they or we all quit doing the Corner lot Victorian Pole Gardens , Because the Butterflies and bees had all those forage places mentioned previously .
the thing about being a Naturalist of no recognition , no degree ,
Truth is still the same after awhile , as having watched many go to extinction ,,(supposing from there is where the phrase? "I am not a happy camper " came from , ..?
The naturalist watching the last of their favorite go extinct ?)
