Hi Liz,

I does not make financial sense to order from US at the moment. With exchange rate of 1.32 ( it was at parity only 2 years ago ) and all kind of extra fees I would rather book in Canada...

Yes, Canadians need to be careful now because of the exchange rate on the money,
and also shipping can be pricey also. Sometimes we get charged a tax also, and then a fee
to the Post to collect the tax. It can add up in a hurry so best to stick to Canadian sellers.

There are some Canadian sellers that I looked at that had huge fees, decided to scrap those orders. Parkland and La Pivoinerie D'Aoust were absolutely reasonable shipping to the US and the credit card I use doesn't even charge an exchange fee. I'm sorry it doesn't work out as well for Canadian buyers with US sellers.

Hi, Liz
Do you grow any tree peonies? Yesterday I notice large seeds on my one and only tree peony when I was digging a daylily order. Have you had success in getting any to germinate? LMK

Hi Teresa, just sent a treemail, got my daylilies today! Thanks again!
I haven't deliberately grown any tree peonies from seeds but I did notice 3 tiny seedlings from Phoenix White this year. None of my other tree peonies have bloomed before this spring and only had a few blooms, no seed pods at all on those. I actually bought peony seed from the APS annual convention last year, the guy manning the desk gave instructions on planting them outside which is what I did. I haven't had any of the tree peony seeds sprout yet but I planted them in big plastic pots with the bottoms cut out so I can see exactly where they are. I'm waiting for at least another year before I call it a total failure on the tree peony side, have had several herbaceous sprout from that same group. If you plant outside put them in a shadier spot than you'd plant a peony in typically, then move it after the 2nd or 3rd year after sprouting. You can plant the same fall you collect the seed.

I ordered Allen P McConnell (BOGO!). Alerti, Astarte, Couronne d'Or, Dai Jo Kuan, Liberty Bell, Negricans (BOGO!) Westerner (yet another BOGO!) and Winged Victory from Gilbert Wild http://www.gilberthwild.com/PE... My sister is visiting from OK this weekend, she'll probably end up with the GOs!

If you're talking about a link for tree peonies, Teresa, GW doesn't sell them at all, nor Itohs. I like Tree Peony Garden for trees http://www.treepeonygarden.com... I ordered 3 from her last year and another 5 this fall. And yes, I'm always up for trying seeds of a variety I don't have! Let me know if you'd like some Phoenix White seed. It's pretty boring on it's own but is supposed to germinate well, could be a good seed parent if you'd like to try a cross.

Sounds great, Teresa! I'll plant them outside where I've had volunteer peonies in the past. I'll let you know if any come up next spring!
