Here's the Pink Lemonade. One of my wholesalers is promoting it.

http://www.pinklemonade-bluebe... I think the birds will find them just as enticing. It would just be a novelty, I think, although it does sound tasty.

It even has a Facebook page

http://www.facebook.com/pinkbl...

A little more info about Pink Lemonade from a Briggs Nursery press release:

"Vaccinium ‘Pink Lemonade’, a hexaploid highbush, is the first pink blueberry to hit the market. With mid-late to late-season ripening, moderate yields, medium-sized, glossy fruit, bright pink fruit-color, and mild, pleasant flavor and good firmness, this is a real winner! The bush of ‘Pink Lemonade’ is vigorous, upright and full (1.5 m high X 1.6 m wide). Leaves are glossy green and lanceolate, with a serrated leaf margins. Leaf surface texture is smooth, very similar to that of V. ashei. Wintertime twigs are dusky reddish-brown in color. The ideal area of adaptation of ‘Pink Lemonade’ is unknown, but its background suggests that it might perform equally well, or better, in milder climates, including areas where rabbiteye cultivars can be grown. Because of the inherent self-fertility problems of rabbiteye germplasm, it is recommended that another rabbiteye cultivar be planted with ‘Pink Lemonade’ to ensure good cross-pollination. In some southerly locales, the cultivar Florida Rose, a pink-fruited cultivar recently released by the University of Florida, may be suitable for this purpose. USDA Zone 4. "

My biggest problem with the blueberries is the wild turkeys. I keep the birds from eating from the top, but those turkeys get underneath and right in there.

We have a choke cherry tree, and each year, just one day, it must hit that certain ripeness, and the robins come in a strip it down completely. It's a sight.

I like the sweeter berries myself. I have one that tastes like the sweet wild blueberry and it is my ultimate favorite. It's North something, I can't think of it right now. When I look at the picture of the 'Pink Lemonade', it reminds me of picking berries before they are ready. Lol. You'll have to report Polly, on their sweetness factor.

I guess that means I couldn't live "down under", no blueberries, no Tc. Lol.

Apparently, Pink Lemonade is a hexaploid. Yet in the south, they recommend cross pollination with a rabbit eye cultivar, for best pollination. It's hard to believe that all rabbit eye blueberries are hexaploids too. That's pretty rare in the wild.

Pink Lemonade is a V. corymosum hybrid (highbush), but hybrid with what I can't seem to find out. It seems likely it is with a southern species.

Found it.

"It's a complex cross of Rabbiteye and Southern highbush with other Highbush varieties."

When you were a child did you take apart all your toys to see how they worked?

I did read that, and wondered about the hardiness.

Seldom do (did) I ever wreck things. I wouldn't take anything apart unless I could put it back together again. I am kinda obsessive that way. I never write notes in my Bibles or similar books, rather, I will insert a note between the pages.

But I am always figuring out how/why/what things work...

Talking, laughing, humming, singing... to yourself are all good things. It is amazing how these actions can prompt your thinking in directions you never would have thought otherwise. Each can be thought as a poor man's muse.
