I have to agree there are some names that I won't buy because of the associations. Devil doesn't bother me, though, and I LOVE devil's food cake!

Here's a Wendell Berry poem for everyone - especially Linnea.

I LOVE that poem, it has been a few years since I've read it. Thank you for sharing!

Me too. And it is a lovely blue. It is also the first iris I bought since the early 80's. I guess it opened my eyes and garden to new varieties.

I really need to get Dodger Blue. There is a lady in Georgetown who owes me a rhizome. Must contact her. Glad to hear that it is really BLUE and not some shade of purple or lavendar.

Yes, Tom, he could use that one, but, in this case, I think Rob would be looking for something with a bit more...emphasis. Rolling on the floor laughing

Schreiner's has an incredible black named Blackwater that I just can't see buying because of the name. Think Iraq/Afghanistan mercenaries. Too many associations with the name.

Me too. I know a lot of people do not pay attention to names but I like to recognize my irises by their names. Some would just make me sad. I wish hybridizers would give their irises lovey, happy or humorous names. Even naming an iris after a person can be a turn off for some folks. I would never buy an iris with the same name as my ex. Bonnie, that is funny, but word association can be a problem. I have also bought a run of the mill plant just because I liked the name!
