There is an obvious reason why a hybridizer would want to buy these seeds:
He or she has that cross and does not want others to have it.

Eurodaylily is someone in Belgium, Europe : Location: 2860 St.KatelijneWaver Belgium

He/she/they supposedly re-sell most seeds on LA again, even to Pat Stamile...
"Patrick Stamile wrote me on 27-1-2014 : Every one of the nine seeds germinated and is growing well. I am about to step them up and put them with the other seedlings of the same cross. Thank you."

They are probably making a nice profit along the way Whistling

I too 'play' in the LA (for seeds) and I sometimes look at the offered plants Whistling

Quite often I see a certain code....

SKEDADDLE - DF - B8E - Selman 2011
THIRD WITCH - triple fan - L7I - Reed 2003
FIREBORN - Triple Fan - B12A - Santa Lucia 1996

What does that mean.. B8E, L71 or B12A? Shrug!

Thank You!

Probably for Blueridge's personal use.
Maybe where it is in their garden. Like a garden map.

I have never heard of any complaints from the overseas seeds. Ive bid on them before. Like I said earlier, maybe not just one seed, but Ive seen some very interesting crosses they have.

Coalminer if memory serves.

This just goes to reaffirm a discussion I had with someone last year: the seeds are worth whatever someone is willing to pay for them. I may think one cross will yield something amazing while you all think it's crud. As a more recent entrant into selling seeds, it is a constant guessing game trying to balance what I think would be a worthwhile cross vs what I think will sell. It's a hobby for me - I use the money to buy more plants and now to help pay for the monthly student loan love notes I get - so I'm not as concerned about things selling for hundreds of dollars. Though it would be nice! Big Grin

I think last year some seeds got up to $125.00 or thereabouts on LA.
Seems a little calmer this year.

I paid $18.00 for 5 seeds once. Got only 1 seedling out of that so it can be risky.

Pam, what's your username on the Lily Auction? Mine is Anotheririslady. I don't remember seeing gardenglory on there recently, but I try not to bid against anyone I recognize from here. I think I've bid against Mayo62 before, but then I saw you were on here and I've tried to curtail my wild urges... but James has some really wonderful crosses, and so Dot (Ladylovingdove)! And I can't seem to stop bidding on some of those incredible crosses...

Thats because you get there first Rolling on the floor laughing I last saw you on my last chance this fall at Stinger. I wasnt going to bid on it anyway, altho I had bid on the previous ones. By the time I saw it, and saw last one, it was already over the average price, and I can wait.

Im trying to buy no seed, but Ive gottten a few from James/JWWC, Dot/Ladylovingdove and Rich. James has one particular parent im interested in. Since I wont plant another batch until the spring, Im just kinda trolling right now, if I get lucky, fine, if not, well there will be endless seeds. I am Gardenglory over there.

So sorry, Betty! Crying
I promise to behave myself from now on! Thumbs up

No problem, Mayo -- It all works out OK in the end. Right now I have bids on a few of Steve Todd's auctions (Ahead) that I made close to two weeks ago, but ever since I saw those TET ROSE F. KENNEDY seedlings that Floyd Cove has for fall introductions at such a great price (for TET RFK intros, that is), I am not as enthused as I was about Steve's auctions. So if anyone wants to bid on any of them, please go ahead.

Pam, I lost that Stinger auction too. And now I've decided to try using my own seedling instead...

I feel rather embarrassed that I do not pay attention to the competition's name, and the only source of ATP members that I know is the plant list. However many members do not have a plant list.

There are a few members that I recognize because I see their names frequently.

I wish we had some guidelines regarding bidding against members.

From now on, I will pay attention to the competition.

Dont pay attention to me, its an auction, and if you want it, you bid on it. Im guessing most feel that way.

Maybe two members could go in together and split the seeds and the cost. Might help ensure a winning bid?

What a bargain, huh? Hilarious! Hilarious!

That half seed could be grown by one of us and then when it makes two fans, we share the second fan with the person who doesn't have it! Or we cut the seed in half! Hmmmm .... might not germinate very well with only half a seed! Whistling Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

I will keep a eye out for members bidding in the future, I am Gozags on the LA. I have to admit that I didn't pay attention to whom I was bidding against, although, I have tried to bid mostly on seeds from ATP members this year. I have again been thwarted by the high roller bidder, I can only hope that they get their fill soon. I have several items I would like to bid on from James, but see no point with them already having bid on it. Again, their tastes run so similar to mine, wish it wasen't so
