Things have trickled down to #13 (that would be me!) -- I chose the Butterfly Garden Seeds from Onalee's Seeds; I had plans to establish a new butterfly garden area this year but that kind of went by the wayside, so these will be perfect for planting next year! Hurray!

I couldn't decide between the Hoya's and the Crape Myrtle tree. I went with the Crape Myrtle because I didn't know if the winners after me could grow a Crape Myrtle tree in their zone. Hoya's can be grown indoors from what I read. I don't have any hoya's and thought it would be cool to try them. But I also am very curious about the size and shipping of the trees. And I need a couple more trees in my backyard for privacy and perches for the over-wintering hummingbirds. Thumbs up The need for a privacy tree in my yard over-ruled my genuine interest to try those 3 hoya plants.

Oh, Becky, I think that will be perfect -- I believe Angie (is it BookerC1 ? ) is too far north for a CM ! Hoyas can definitely be grown indoors, they make great houseplants -- but I think if I had taken them my husband might have disowned me, the sunroom is already full! I hope you love your Crepe Myrtle, they look like such beautiful trees Smiling

So, what color of crepe myrtle will all you crepe myrtle winners choose? I'm stuck between deciding between the pure white, Ebony and Ivory and the red hot, Ebony Embers. Decisions, decisions?? Whistling Smiling

Mine HAS to be a red one, too! Like I need more hummingbird color magnets ... Whistling .... but I love red and my garden bed flowers are predominately red. Red is MY garden color! In fact, I just repainted one of my raised bed frames a dark brownish-red. (Daylily seedling bed.) This is the color it used to be: http://garden.org/thread/view_...

And this is the color it is now. Notice all the red blooms in the background. It's all about what attracts the hummingbirds afterall. Green Grin!

I love red too but Joy, I think it depends on what grows near it to determine what color to get. They are all so beautiful. The black foliage is going to pop anyway and if you have a lot of trees, I'd say get the white. White would be a great contrast against the green and among all that gorgeous black foliage. I can't remember how your landscape looks in your new home but I'll bet it will beautiful there no matter which color you use.

Like Becky, I have a lot of red blooms, but even my daylilies will be all bloomed out before the Crepe Myrtle blooms here. The only Fall-ish red I have is an old Hibiscus coccineus. However I do have red doors on my house and I have a red wooden glider.

I lost a southern magnolia during the winter; I'd started it from seed and it was about 10' tall and just gorgeous. I loved that tree and it was only about 10 years old. Broke my heart. So the CM will take its place, but not in the same spot. I'll move it over a little bit so I can see it from inside. Can't wait!

I loved the Butterfly Garden gift too, Sandy, and I also loved Jon's Daylily seeds, so many great prizes this time. I hope all the winners are as happy as I am.

Oh and Becky, I received a hoya last year and had no clue what to do with it, but it is a wonderful houseplant and is really full and green. Now if only I can talk it into blooming for me.

@Joy - were they offering the Ebony and Ivory one? (I didn't see it on the list for choices for the raffle winner.) I think they are all stunning! I like reds and purples a lot...so the foliage and bloom color combo of the red hot is nice...but it all depends on where you're going to put it, I suppose. do you want it to be the focal point or the backdrop where its going? White, although flashy, would look nice in an area where you have a stellar plant that you want to pop...or if you have a monotone color scheme other than neutral...the white could be the popper!

I really wish I had the space and the warm enough climate here for one because you guys are all are making me very smitten with them. Sticking tongue out Big Grin

Ditto ! I figure that now that I'm on a roll with winning things the lottery will probably be next, and then I'll be able to put up my humongous heated greenhouse and grow crape myrtle trees nodding (I suppose the first step to that goal would be to buy a lottery ticket, though...)

I picked daylily seeds from Jon. I can't wait to see them bloom! Might take a couple years, but I'll post pictures when it happens. Here are the crosses I picked:
Shamrock Spring x Grandma's Smile
Shamrock Spring x Pearl Harbor
Shamrock Spring x Precious Candy

Thanks @Jon!

By the way, I sort of alluded to what I chose, but never came right out and said it. I chose the $50 gift certificate to Oakes. I think it was the right decision for me.

@Jessie6162 - very cool! I hope they come out beautiful for you! My tastes are a little different than the current seed crosses, but I would have loved to have chosen seeds from Jon if they were along the lines of my focus. (Although, I have to say, I liked some of the crosses just because of the name "Shamrock".)

@Jon - do you think you might be adding more cultivars to your mix as time goes on? Do you have a particular focus (or focii) at the moment for your crosses? I would have loved to have picked seeds from you, but unfortunately the cultivars weren't quite the types of crosses I'm focusing on here in my garden. I'm going to keep an eye out in the future on your seed page though, just in case something crops up along the lines of what I'm looking for. Big Grin

@Dave - is anyone from Oakes a member of AllThingsPlants, that you are aware of?
