When I started this thread I guess I was thinking of people that just sell what they have in there garden, divisions, cuttings and such.. Unlike a nursery that buys plants and sells for a profit. Many of the members really don't make a lot of money on the plants but want a nice home for the plants they share. I like the definitions of Tara. Might be tricky if one is unhappy about a transaction. What I love about this site is the positive comments and caring feeling that it has. There is enough negativity out there. I just wanted to share good exchanges from other members so that others would not hesitate to buy even if they don't know the person..

Semantics aside, I don't see an easy way to post a recommendation for a member who happens to sell the occasional daylily division or rooted cutting. The Green Pages would be the appropriate place, but it appears that some changes would have to be made to make it suitable for recommending a member who doesn't have an online sales site. But I could be wrong...
It is a nice idea tho, and seems like it should be do-able.

Yes, I'm thinking that it is/should/could be a separate category. I'm old school I guess, or maybe just naive, in 'assuming' that vendors in the Green pages are actually licensed for profit businesses. Shrug!
Whereas in my mind what Julia was speaking of was like purchasing, or even trading, with say, your neighbor down the street. Shrug!

I guess it is about the semantics.

I don't sell. I do trades or sometimes send divisions to people. I do ask them to pay for the postage or reimburse me. So I am not making a profit. I only rarely have anything to offer. So I would not call myself a vendor.

The issue involving a place for trade feed back has already been addressed a couple of times. So a separate category would be exactly that. I think Dave has made the right call on it so far.

What was discussed before was a general member feedback for things like trades and/or purchases. That idea didn't go anywhere because of concerns that negative feedback might arise. Seems to me that setting up an area of the Green Pages for member recommendations (which is the way it is handled for businesses--recommendations ONLY) would avoid that. However, the idea might make those who were definitely against the member feedback proposal uncomfortable. So I dunno.

Exactly what I was thinking, maybe two separate sections ... we already have one for businesses and it would be nice to have another for ATP Member/Sellers and have it be "For Recommendations Only" just like for the businesses.

One of the most endearing practices here, is it is very common to see people just generously offer to share for postage, or not even for postage. I love to see that a post was written to collect information, very often turns into people realizing they are both growing something the other is dying to try, and a nice moment is born. I will revisit forums where this happens because they are just nice reading and to be honest we don't see this kind of behavior many other places. I hope as you meet your commitment to keep vendors from advertizing where they are rightfully prohibited, acts of generosity and friendship are left to grow and admire.

Frankly, I am surprised and a bit disappointed there isn't a plant trading forum. I always liked to do that, a great way to share plants.

Maybe I'm not looking in the right place, or maybe I am living in the past

There is a plant and seed trading forum and has been for a long time.
You can find it here. http://garden.org/forums/view/...

If you find your plants in the Plant Database, and mark them as plants you "HAVE", you'll be given an option to list them in your category for "Available for trade". You might get a Tree-Mail from that. Or check out plants in the database that you wish you had, and look at the list of people who "HAVE" that plant. It might show right there whether they are inclined to trade plants or cuttings. I think you can record yourself in the Plant Database as "WANTING" particular cultivars. You might get a Tree-Mail offer from that.

Sometimes the seed swap tool is used to assist an in-person swap that includes plants.

I think this Mid-Atlantic swap in MD is doing that. But it is to be held in MD on Saturday, 10-Sep-2016, and it might be too late to join. Besides, MD and FL are not exactly walking distance.
http://garden.org/apps/swap/vi...

There is also a forum for group buys and "classified ads":
http://garden.org/forums/view/...

People discussing group purchases might be inclined to trade plants. At least they are used to packaging plants to resist abuse by USPS.

What if I don't want to sell or swap? I just want to give away but be paid for postage. Is there a way to indicate that?

Just post what you have in the Plant and Seed Trading Forum. List what you have and say that you will let people have them for postage.
