Rose Of Sharon: What's in a Name, Anyway

By Sharon
August 30, 2015

A rose is a rose unless it's a Rose of Sharon, and then it's a hibiscus. Some say it's the name of a crocus and others swear it's the name of a tulip and then there's some confusion with the lily of the valley. Poor plant, most likely it lives in a state of constant identity crisis, never knowing on which side of the garden it should grow.

I was born and raised in Korea, where Hibiscus syriacus is the national flower, so I've always called it Mugunghwa. Smiling

I've got more seedlings than I can shake a stick at, but "thuggish" or not, I love my ROS shrubs! I've been moving some toddler-age saplings to the far edge of my little treeline, now that we'll soon have neighbors behind us. They'll provide some quick screening (construction really did a number on the trees) as well as some pretty blooms.
We're all learners, doers, teachers.

Wonderful article and very interesting. I am now better educated about ROS.
Thanks! I just might have to have one now. Smiling
