Grown from seed from the North American Rock Garden Society Seed Ex - Lilium martagon. The color is a little bit ho-hum, but still quite nice.

Also grown from seed from the North American Rock Garden Society Seed Ex - Lilium martagon. The color here was certainly worth the wait.

Moby did you amend your soil for the Martagons? Aspen Gold is a great color.

Rick, that second one is a perfect color.

Lefty ~ your last pic is especially nice.

Susan ~ I didn't amend the soil but really need to as the foliage was very chlorotic this year. The marties are growing along the gravel drive, which provides excellent drainage, but who knows what may have leached into the soil from 70 years of rock being put down.

Are a couple petals stuck together in that last photo, Moby? Isn't it funny how you only notice these things after you've take pictures...

Petal backs can be quite nice with martagons. This is Mrs. R. O. Backhouse.

Nicotine is blooming today. Just planted last fall, it looks like I'll only get 4 blooms off it, but they sure are pretty. It has a new name, but I've forgotten it.

Four blooms is very good for a first planted martagon. Martagon petal backs are often ornamental.

These photos are enough to make me want to save my pennies for martagons this fall. Thanks for showing the reverse sides.

The seedling is just from a "plain ol' martagon species" seed packet from the NARGS (North American Rock Garden Society) seed exchange. But it is a different seedling than what I previously posted. Another is blooming now, too, and it is about midway between the two. More to come, including some from my own seed. I don't think it's possible to get a bad martagon flower. Big Grin
