If you are you might want to check out the Heartland Peony Society's fall sale. It'll be on 26 Sept from 9-3 and it's open to the public. Wish I could go, sounds like they'll have some amazing plants for sale at wonderful prices! It's at Faith Lutheran Church on Roe Ave at 67th St, Prairie Village KS. They'll have both tree and herbaceous peonies and a few Itohs, too.

Liz, thanks for the heads up. Is there a way we could get the list of the peonies for sale?

There wasn't a complete list or anyone to contact to get one, unfortunately. They mention several by name in their newsletter. It said they will have over 1,000 peonies, around 75 varieties. They are supposed to have variations of Rock's Flare tree peonies from a big grower in China, 5 year old plants on their own roots, around 200 plants, selling for $20 each or 3 for $50. Another great one they mentioned is Lemon Chiffon for $75, limited to 1/customer. They'll have Japanese tree peony hybrids, 20 named varieties to include Oukan and Kokumon. the only others they mention by name are Old Faithful, Roselette, Salmon Dream, Hephestos and Abalone Pearl. Sure do wish I lived close enough to attend!

Wow! I wish I could attend also! I have some relatives living in the area. I mentioned to my cousin that HPS has a sale. She wanted to add some flowering plants in her yard so I suggested peonies to her.

I hope that in the future, HPS will do on line orders.

I actually looked it up on mapquest to see if it was doable for me, Diann! It's just a 10+ hour drive....

We were in KCMO and Basehor KS in July. It was a 10-hour drive. Had I known that HPS has their sale in September, we could have planned our visit around this time of year.

Oh so sorry, wish I had seen this post earlier!
I did go to the sale and spent a bundle! The tree peonies were in great shape, and the intersectionals had huge huge roots! The rockii seedlings were my main interest. I got there an hour before the sale started and I was 4th in line, so I had my pick of everything. The intersectionals were fewest in number and sold out very quickly. I bought 'Sequestered Sunshine'. This year I didn't see any species peonies, which surprised me. The seedlings were a bit smaller than I expected, about 23" root to tip.
HPS does the sale every other year, so contact me in Sept 2017 if you want me to shop for you! I'll do it, because I know what it's like to read about great sales that are 15 hours away. I've driven to Tyler Texas to buy daylilies and roses, so the 3 hour drive to KC wasn't that bad. People with great nurseries near them don't realize how lucky they are!
Remember that children, marriages, and flower gardens reflect the kind of care they get.

That's the truth, Cindi! You'll have to post some pictures of your haul so we can experience it vicariously! Funny, I lived in Tyler TX for a short while, just after high school....
