I just watch the pods for cracking, then remove along with the tag and place upright each in its own paper cup to finish drying. This might be easier said than done in some regions. Here, summer slowly blends into fall, usually all the way into October. And those trumpet pods get HUGE and may take a while to dry.

And someday Pard is going to write an article, or page for us on how to do some of this stuff. Right Pard? Please.

Good winter project.

Thats a beauty I am just beginning to appreciate the down facing lilies.
This is new software for me. I have wanted to go to another level of presentation for my garden pix and add music. I cant believe how easy this is.

OK so some arent lilies and some are not all white but this is the second slide show I have tried.

Jo Ann, I enjoyed your slide show and thanks for posting it. I like the presentation format. And a Japanese iris tucked in here and there is perfectly acceptable!

Love your rascal, whizz. It looks like it has yellow halos around the spots. Very interesting! The out-to-downfacing Asiatics are my favorites.

My three favorite out-to-downfacing Asiatics are George Slate, Morden Butterfly and Katinka. Lucky for me they multiply well!

Because George Slate is a hybrid lily so you won't be able to get seed that will produce genetically identical plants. I purchased all three of those Asiatics from the Lily Nook in Canada and they do ship internationally. They didn't carry it this year and who knows when they will offer it again Sad .

Anthony, Rascal is gorgeous!! So is your orange one!!

Jo Ann, another beautiful slideshow!

Connie, three beauties!! Oh my!

My Asiatics were dug from my Mom's house. They were a Breck special and nothing fantastic. I can't even name one of them It doesn't come up on Google at all. I shared with my SIL and it's possible I didn;;t even get it. I'm not sure every bulb has bloomed yet.

Sally, I used to just get the Dutch lily bulbs too, until Tracey showed pictures of some of her beauties. Some of the ones hybridized here in the US are so much better, the colors are wonderful, and they are bred for the garden, so they actually live longer here.

So try a few from the US growers. Like Faraway Flowers, The Lily Garden, or BD Lilies. I wish I could say BuggyCrazy. Believe me you will see the difference.

I have at least two of those catalogs bookmarked from other friends. I am amazed at the different kinds there are. We seem to get the same old same old every year. I honestly need more room before I indulge. I hope next spring I can finish moving flowers around. My problem is, I'm starting 3 eunonymus bushes in the North Peony Bed. Eventually those plants surrounding it have to go somewhere else. I have so many iris that need room, daylilies too, not much sun left, etc. Dilemas!

On a good note, the neighbor kid has been talking about taking down one or both of the walnut trees in the South Peony. That will open that bed to sun and I'd just have to move astilbes and a few other shade lovers :o)

The ones for the Dutch industry are mainly for cut flowers, it seems. And for that, they have a certain uniform shape to them. I was so enthralled when I first saw some of the ones I bought from The Lily Garden. It looked like butterflies were floating around in the garden, so delicate looking. I like the Dutch ones too. All lilies have a place.

Sounds like you're going to have some work to do. Astilbes can surprise you with how much sun they can take if they are really well mulched.

I remember seeing the pictures of your garden beds, Sally. They are lovely. I started mine all about the same time, and I just noticed this year they are getting really crowded. So in the next couple of years I'm going to be doing some major overhauls.

Thanks Polly! I always walk across the road and slowly walk the length of my yard to see how it looks to others.

Anthony, someday I'll accomplish that! Especially since I really don't want all the scented in one bed. I had hoped to spread them out. It didn't happen this year.

I do have things to look forward to now!
