Belated Happy Birthday, girls.

My gardens look awful. Nothing left blooming. I feel like Fall is coming early. The humidity and bugs are terrible. I didn't take one picture this summer of anything.

How could this summer have flown by? My entire garden needs digging up and thinning out. I'm looking for someone to hire to do it as I cannot dig due to bad ankles and feet. I know if I don't get it done this Fall, I won't be happy with the way the gardens look next year.

Arlene, my garden is looking the same way. Weeds are really bad in the back. Just too hot to do much about them right now. Hopefully we will cool off and I will get caught up on things this fall. I did my 3 new mums and stuck out front just to add some color.

It's that time of year here where we make use of the harvest and can and freeze like crazy to preserve the summer for winter. Lily season went so quick this year. Normally I have flowers in September, but not this year. Everything has just finished. Pods are forming nicely and have a couple extra weeks to develop, the one good thing about the season finishing up early in the north.

Sad, isn't it. And then we look back at all the lovely pictures, and look forward to seeing the old friends again next year, along with maybe a few new purchases.

But... but... Sister of Pizzaz is just now blooming for me. It is my last lily to poke its nose in the spring and one of the last to bloom.

As you can see, it isn't very tall! I think it would like a better place to grow.

And of course, speciosum rubrum, blooming now. This one could be a hybrid, it is much more floriferous than my others. It has also divided a few times. The buds do have the spurs/claws typical of the speciosums.

I got it in '07 or '08. I seem to remember it was a freebie from PNWLS order. Looking at my photo archives it bloomed a bit earlier in '07 because there were late Asiatics blooming at the same time. I think it is stunted because it is in a bad place... under the window air conditioner. So it gets dripped on. But what is one to do when real estate is in short supply?
