I agree with Physostegia virginiana, I have this plant and I love it. It does spread by underground roots, but it is easy to pull. It does need a lot of water, in my area it is best grown as a bog plant.

Thank you all so much for your comments and for identifying this plant. I tried to grow an obedient plant once but it didn't take. Not sure why. I will pass the info on to my friend. When I get this plant from her, I think I will plant it in an under ground pot so that it can't spread too much. I will have to look up to find the best time to transplant this plant to my flower garden.
