Help! Some of my new rhizomes are just sitting there...no new roots, no new leaves, nothing. Others that I planted the same time in the same bed are doing great. They were all healthy and have been treated exactly the same...any thoughts why some are "pouting" or how I can get them going?

How long have they been planted? Were they dry when you got them? As long as they are firm and not soft they should grow. Has it been really hot there?

How do you know that they do not have any new roots djinnevada?

They weren't dry, just happy regular old rhizomes that have been planted about 3-4 weeks. I did the "tug test" and they came right up with no sign of new growth, opposed to the others that tugged back. Someone suggested it was their "parentage" and that they would get going as it cooled down here (it's been everywhere from mid 90's to mid 80's). Soooooooo not patient!!

Welcome djinneada. I had a few that looked like they were not going to take off and then they did. I am not sure why, but the only thing I could think of is that they needed some kind of adjustment period to get use to the new area.

At this stage I would not disturb the roots for a couple of weeks. I only attempt to lift a rhizome when there is no growth at all and the rhizome is looking a bit discolored or shrunken. If the rhizome is firm and just sitting there I watch to see what it does.

I would expect that from a Pink Tutu and Cowboy boots dude with a flashlight working in the garden! Hilarious!

if you read his prose, you would think his mind was still there (maybe he teaches at one)?

My husband said to dissolve the little blue pill in water and pour it over the rhizome.

What craziness . . . and fun to read on an iris-less day. Too many of those to come, huh.
