Once I learned that TLN was the source of many of Tracey's that I liked, I pondered ordering from them, but was always so poor after Faraway, Buggy and a few misc. here and there, I couldn't justify TLN and the extra phyto cost. Alas, Buggy is no longer...and on a cold, dark, winter's day in December, my DH says "is it time to order lilies yet?", I replied, "it could be". He says, "well get them now before the Lower 48 scoops up the ones you want". I asked, "what's my limit? He said get what we need......... Blinking Rolling on the floor laughing I'm not stupid...I went shopping at TLN....then I added a few more...then two more...Then he announced he hoped I was close to done. Figured I best stop there!

I emailed and requested the earliest possible ship date. They ship to the US first and as soon as their inspection in done.

I will have to get an order in for fall, or next year, if they don't do fall. Thanks.

Frankly, I think everyone is brainwashed to think plants should be cheap. $13-26, a music CD costs that. They cost far less than one dollar to produce. Does anyone complain? $13-26 might be the price for ONE meal if you go out to eat. All that for a half hour of enjoyment (if it is indeed that enjoyable). Compare that to the years one gets from lilies.

People get so caught up on what they think a price should be, rather than what it is worth to them. If it seems like a really good price, they will buy it whether they want/need it or not.

Minimalist living is how I survive on my meager wages. I don't own a lot of things, but what I do have give me serious pleasure, and they are not necessarily inexpensive. Barbara, your DH may not understand your love of lilies, but he knows it makes you happy, and that is the true worth.

Lefty, you speak of wise truth. When you also consider the amount of time that goes into propagation and breeding, certainly it is worthy of its price, again, for something you value so very much.

I think the above, written by Lefty, is some of the most valuable information we could ever have here. Profound insight for all of us. And I think we all know it to be true, in our own worlds.

Thanks for that.

I posted this before.... Went to Costco this summer and picked up 6 bulbs of Lady Alice and 6 bulbs of Henryi for $13.95. Costco has bulbs from "Bulbs to Blooms" every year for sale. Normally, they are ones that I already have but this time I wanted Lady Alice, already had Henryi.. I know its hard to find some of the bulbs in other states and countries.

Thanks Jo Ann and Tracey. Do you see my head getting bigger?

True to my ideology, If a lily bulb is only worth 10 cents to a person, than so be it. It's a personal price tag.

---

Michael, that's a great price on those bulbs. Lilium henryi is a variable species. You may find that you like your new henryi's better than your older ones.

Love this whole discussion on the price of lily bulbs. I certainly agree with the concept of personal price tags, Rick. I suppose that applies to just about anything, doesn't it?

I kinda always see myself anyway, as person who is serious about lilies. The people who breed them, the ones that I know, are such good, kindhearted, generous people. Not only do their lilies bring me enjoyment, but I also want them to make a decent living, which is not always easy these days, especially. Supporting them when I can, I do. I would definitely be able to find some bulbs cheaper elsewhere, but honestly, I'd rather buy less lilies and support those whose breeding and works I enjoy so much. I know they share my love of lilies too and to help keep their passion going in lily breeding is really an easy choice for me to make in supporting their businesses.
