Your pic doesn't look like Salvia leucantha, since it isn't purple/white, but all purple and I think it belongs in Mexican Bush Sage (Salvia leucantha 'Midnight'), which is all purple and that's what your pic looks like. Salvia (Salvia leucantha 'Midnight')

Zu and Sue are somewhat removed, also lizzipa. We've had to evacuate when we lived in Fallbrook in SoCal...one of the reasons we left there, the fires are all too common now. We are now in the farthest northwestern part of California, 3 blocks from the ocean and though forested, not likely to burn where we are. My bro and sis in law are in Sonora / Jamestown which is Mother Lode country which is burning now, with the more than 65,000 acres on fire, but they are 20 miles from current lines. My cousin lives in Mokelumne Hill, which is also Gold Country and she's just gotten back into her home after having evacuated, lucky one, hers is still standing though they have no power and don't know when they will. It is indeed scary and it will be costly and is going to affect insurance comapnies to a great extent and I would not be surprised if they spread those costs out over all nationwide. In '07 when we evacuated from Fallbrook and the fires down there were huge, they quit writing policies to the 7 western states for quite awhile.

@wcgypsy

*Blush* So sorry I didn't mention you. I don't remember all the CA members. *Blush*

So glad you are safe and your cousin too. Happy to hear your cousin's house is still standing. Scary to have to evacuate and very, very sad if the house burns down. Dean and I have watched the fires on tv and can't imagine it if we lived there.

The fires in '07, were they the ones in the San Diego and southern CA that were awful? For some reason, I thought it was in '03, unless there were fires then also. I'm guessing you have wildfires every year in CA.

In CA, residents are blessed with low humidity, but along with drought, is a recipe for wildfires. Do the wildfires start with just the low humidity?

Y'all stay safe!

There were bad fires in SoCal area where we were (San Diego County) in '03 also, yes. Up where we are now in Northern Ca...and Oregon and Washington, fires are mostly lightning strikes and there's a lot of tinder out there now. In SoCal, huge problem with the crazies and arson.....

That's awful that people set fires and/or arson in CA because of the wildfires that get raging. Doesn't take much.

Yeah, well, left up to me, I would hang them without question....one really large, large, high consequences fire was set off by a moron from out of the area, who was hunting or hiking and got lost, so he sent up a flare....
