Thread OP

Hi Everyone,

I am in the process of getting a phytosanitary certificate from the USDA which will give me permission to ship some daylilies to my Uncle in Japan. The variety being shipped is Barney ( Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Barney') ).

The USDA requires that a genus and a species be listed. I emailed the hybridizer for a clue about the species but haven't received a reply. Does anyone have a good guess? Is it likely a mix of species? Thanks for your help.

Since they are interspecific hybrids created originally in the last century the best you could do is state either Hemerocallis sp. or Hemerocallis fulva hybrid.

The most recent phytosanitary certificate that I received with plants from the US, dated 2014, listed the Botanical Name of Plants as Hemerocallis sp.

Thanks, Maurice!

With your help, I went forward with the electronic application for a phyto certificate, and "Hemerocallis sp." came up as the only option for hemerocallis. So I think that'll do.
