Okay- I ask for 1 replacement cutting. He/she told me that put it in partial sun which I did before i had even callous the cutting like everyone suggested that I do here vs their suggestion by covering it up with soil. I told them that I already put it in partial sun since the last spoke to you about the problem/concern. They said its sunburnt. So pretty much from what I'm getting at their responses is = no replacement cutting. That's okay. I no longer will be ordering from them. I'll take my chances with my baby callous one LOL Thumbs down : for customer service

Edit: they want the rotten cutting mailed back to them in order to get another replacement cutting. I callous that rotten cutting. Lost cause.

@cherryb1ossoms - what zone are you in?
And mind telling us the company?
Seems they are giving you bad advice. Advice from DrDawg and others here is far better, IMHO.
After cutting you really need to let it callous before placing in growing medium.

I'm not sure what zone but Stockton, Ca. The company said that they have seen sunburnt cuttings survive and they want me to give it a chance for it to thrive by covering it in soil (first advice). Which I did as well move it to get partial sun just in case- 2nd advice from them-
I already did this. However, here on the forum suggested to callous to save the cutting - i went ahead to callous to prevent further damage.

According to them, they don't have a problem replacing the cutting but I have to mail the bad cutting to get a new one. I had already callous their cutting which I didn't tell them that I did. I'm not even sure they would accept the cutting after I had already callous it. It feels like I have to jump through loops just to get another replacement cutting. I don't like to give bad reviews or be negative but I just not happy with their service. They want pictures of all the cuttings which I had already sent them the first time I had addressed my concerns with that bad cutting.

Overall, I just think it's too much trouble on my behalf to just get another cutting- postage, going to the post office. This mother of 3 doesn't have time for that. I won't be ordering from them anymore. My intentions was to attempt rooting the multi-cutting pulmerias since I had really good success in single cuttings.

Company--- "Just Pulmerias" through Facebook

Here is 2 out 4 cuttings I ordered from them. 3rd cutting not pictured. Just took this picture 2 hours ago. It seems like it doing okay.

Just an observation, the cuttings they are giving you are multi-tip but in my opinion are too short and it appears to me from this year's growth. In my experience, any cuttings from this year's growth (around this time) are still too soft, therefore susceptible to rot or will dry out too easy.

I prefer cuttings from previous year's growth (preferably in spring) or in Fl just before our first frost, which is around Feb. This gives the new tips/branches enough time to harden and making it easier to root and less susceptible to rot. This also increases the chance of blooming at the first year of planting.

This is one of the main reason why I prefer to cut the plants in spring too and I usually cut it longer (10 to 18 inches depending I the variety). The only exception are the plumerias that are dwarf or compact or blooms from short tips.

That makes sense because when I received these cuttings, it appears to be softer then the ones I ordered from Hawaii - single cuttings. Thank you, Gigi.

Gigi is right - and I hate to say it but this company has had numerous complaints. Personally, I would post on their facebook page that you are dissatisfied; that will surely get their attention.

I wish we have a consumer rating system here in ATP for plumeria vendors ( @dave, or we can just make it a sticky thread in the plumeria forum) because some of these plumeria cuttings plus shipping are really expensive and if we have vendors that 'don't want to make it right' they should be called out for it. Of course, to be fair, these vendors should be given a chance for them to respond to complains. The thread can also be used as a recognition for vendors that are doing it right, not only on price and customer service but on the quality of their plumeria plants.

There is strength in numbers, so if they know that we are ATP members, maybe they will make sure to give us high quality cuttings (or at minimum a one-time hassle-free replacement).

Yep, post a comment on the FB page.

There is no problem whether your (bad) cutting has callused or not. Even if it were a fresh cutting, it would still callus during the time it left your house until the time of delivery. I would ask this "company" to issue a free postage label so all you had to do was box it and have the USPS pick it up. If they are unwilling to do so, put that in your comment. This is all their fault, not yours. Though I cannot tell about the age of the cutting from your pictures, I sure do agree with @hetty. The cuttings are far too short. My cuttings will be 16" up to a whopping 24". If one wanted to, they can often cut mine in half and root both halves. Whistling

We would be on the same zone cherrybloosoms, 9B. Hope your other cuttings will try to form some good leaves. Oftentimes, you will just get the latent buds of this year to bloom next year. So this year will just be pure energy gathering/hardening period. The irony however, by the time they are hardened, it is time to move them indoors which will further put them to nap.

From my experience - nearly 40 years horticulture - companies that ARE reputable, caring, good, etc do NOT require you to send things back. Over the years I have learned my lessons and realized that in every case that I dealt with that REQUIRED you to send something back, the company sucks and their stuff is poor quality. A couple of companies out there require you to not only send back the plant, but also send back the original shipping label.

BTW, I agree that those cuttings were way to small. Even I with my minimal knowledge can see that.

Thank you for the support guys. Thank You! These cuttings when I got them were softer and it appeared somewhat a bit shriveled when I first got them but like I said I didn't know any better. The one I ordered from Hawaii was hard a rock and it was not shriveled up like these. As size wise they were probably 8-10" almost same size as my single if not smaller. I don't even think they were at least 12". I know for sure it was definitely not 16-24" like Ken had mentioned. If I knew they had some prior complaints I wouldn't have ordered from them. I'm just going to leave it alone. i'm just tired on having to explain myself to them. They wanted updated pictures of my cuttings - for what? To determine whether a replacement cutting is needed? Or Just to tell me the same thing like last time- "the tips are good and cover it up with soil". I sent them the exact same picture I posted here with my concerns. It's okay Ken, I'm not going to even ask for a free postage label because I have a feeling they are going to make me jump through loops for that too. It shouldn't be this much work and so many days to ask for a replacement cutting. They won't do anything until I send them updated pictures of my cuttings. Whatever....

I agree David!! Thumbs up

:thankyou: guys!

You might be right to just walk away from this, CB.

The reason my cuttings are so long and so plump is because I have no "trees". I think that by having tree-size plants, small/short tips are hardened/mature enough for cutting/rooting. I have to bring every single plant inside for the fall/winter months, and thus have to keep my plumeria within 6-7' tall. Thus, by the time my newly formed tips/branches mature enough to root, they are long and thick. It is not unusual for my cuttings to be 1 1/2" thick and have an inflo, particularly the ones I take late summer. At least I think that's the difference between the way I grow and the way commercial growers do. I also have to take cuttings just before fall, which is not the ideal time, but I have no choice. I have to manage the size. Those cuttings generally will never root while they are dormant, so lots of cuttings will just sit in their perlite-filled buckets over the fall/winter months.

That is certainly correct, Hetty. I think CB is just tired of dealing with it though.
