Background history:

'Zada Mae' is a dormant diploid introduced in 1982 by Frank Kropf. (For more info, see Floota's post below this post.)

Zada Mae has earned the Honorable Mention 2008 AHS Award. It is a mid-season bloomer with extended bloom season. It produces a 4.5" double-bloom that has produced 1 registered child:

I am sorry but some of the information contained above needs correcting. 'Zada Mae' was hybridized in 1982, but the Kropf in the AHS database refers to Frank Kropf, who is now deceased. I believe Frank Kropf lived in either MO or KS, and Robin Calderon was his protege. She registered some of his cultivars after he died. I can't remember exactly how long ago he died, but it was around 2006 or 2007 . Robin posted it on the robin, and right after he died, she nominated some of his cultivars for AHS awards, as he had been ill for a while and hadn't nominated any. I believe this was one that she nominated ( when I was AHS awards chair in 2008.) Robin used to grow a lot of Frank's plants and sell them.

this dl is a blooming machine and forms a large clump rather quickly. Consistent double and bright color, it's on my wish list!

Zada Mae, came to me in my first Daylily order from Robin Calderon in 2012. It has been a spectacular performer here, with great branching, and bud count. It is with out a doubt, my favorite double, and one of my favorites period. It has had a few rebloom scapes in 2013, and 2014, it did not this year. I posted a picture in the data base, that shows the great branching, and bud count, and it has multiplied very well. I would recommend Zada Mae to anyone wanting a great performing double.
