There are pictures of what look like two different iris in the Database. Dave's Garden has a third which is the only one that approaches the description. This iris was introduced in 1987 and the two pictures in ATP look too recent.

Does anyone grow either of the last two? I like them both. I could order the second from Blue J but am reluctant to order a NoID because I love to show my iris.

I have a friend that grows Forte and neither of the ones posted above looks like the one she grows. Hers has bright medium lavender standards and very dark lavender/purple velvety falls. hmmmmmm..............

And hers is an SDB not an intermediate.

'Forte' is not an Intermediate, it's an SDB (as already indicated in the database).

I wonder if @janwax bought her plant from Blue J, since the pictures in the database appear to be of the same cultivar to me (quite a few of the pictures from Blue J have some color balance issues). Neither of the pictures seem to be of 'Forte', though.

No, not Blue J. I bought it on ebay from a seller called "Yodad".

Thank you, Arlyn. That is the SDB Forte my friend grows.

Ah well, it happens. Shrug! . Anyone who buys or trades for more than a few irises will end up with the occasional misnamed one.

I do wonder, based on the picture from Blue J, if this particular variety is being widely circulated under the wrong name.

This is the entry from ebay:

I agree that none of our pics look like the one on wiki iris.
Should the photos be removed?

There are three options in these types of cases. Which gets done is pretty much up to you.

1. You can propose moving it to the correct entry, if you know what it is.

2. You can propose moving it to the general iris category: (Irises (Iris) (this option also allows you to easily move it to the correct entry some time in the future, if its identity becomes known)

3. You can propose to delete it.

It's your decision what to do because you, of course, own picture. I will eventually delete it if it's left in the current entry, but generally wait a couple of weeks or so to give people time to decide what they want to do.

I'd like to propose moving it to the general iris category, Kent. Neither Suzanne's nor mine look like the Wiki Pic.
It's a Paul Black and no longer listed at Mid-America.

I am looking at yodad50's sold listings. He doesn't take his own pics. He has one of Calif_Sue's pics for Monty Byers, Dance for Joy. http://www.ebay.com/itm/TALL-B...

I think the flower got mixed up. The seller's description is not the flower pictured. I am thinking yodad50 is Williamson Farm flowers. http://williamsonfarmflowers.c...

Actually, Linnea, I really like that photo from Williamson Farm Flowers of their Forte. It may be incorrectly titled but it is a lovely iris.

Done. Thanks much!

I left the Blue J picture for @Calif_Sue to decide how to handle but expect, one way or another, it won't be in that entry for long. Now we just need someone who grows 'Forte' to upload a picture of it......

The photo which Arlyn posted is the true SDB 'Forte. We used to grow it and it is the pollen parent of my 'Reddy Set'. Paul Black withdrew it from commerce because it is a poor grower. I am glad that I had it for awhile as I would never have guessed that it could produce an amoena.

Ok, after looking at other pictures on Williamson's site, I agree both ATP pictures are the same iris. Who gets to tell these two growers they are distributing an iris with the wrong name? I would bet that one got the plant from the other.

I just checked the C & T Iris Patch & they list it. I think they have closed for the year, but next year it might be available. Remember that you will have to baby it. You might refer the growers to the wiki photo & ask nicely if they think theirs is correct.

Blue J's image is gone, I have been deleting a lot of them now that we have more images showing the true colors but that one was clearly incorrect.
