I didn't get around to it in August. Is it too late to move some Oriental poppies now in late September, zone 5a? I have a small patch in a garden area and the color of the poppies really clash with other plants in the same bed. I would like to move the poppies to spot all to themselves. Thanks for any info.

Very hard to move an Oriental poppy as they have long tap roots. I usually wait until early spring when they send out small plants that have a shallow root system. I have some pictures let me find them.

This is what mine looks like in the spring. Here in Washington this shot was taken end of January so really late winter.

Other small plants and there root system. I have had great success with this. Something I have noticed is that it is hard to eradicate this kind of poppy. I have dug one out only to have it reappear in a few years.
