Less dramatic growth this week, but still looking strong.

The new points haven't grown much, however, so I think they're probably getting suppressed a bit, either hormonally or through nutrient competition. I'll wash away some media to investigate this week, and do some more cutting if it seems prudent.

The new pot has growth to about 1 inch above the media, and already coloring. As before, the original leaves died quickly after they were planted deeper, and I'll watch them closely for signs of infectious rot.

The new growth points on the first pot receded and some of the growth was clearly getting shaded out, so I cut out the section with the largest growth and repotted it.

You can see how the roots come directly out of the old corm, which is why I expect to have a bit of trouble rooting each of the new plantlets separately. The corm is starting to shrink from the bottom up, as the energy is used up by the top. I'll have to watch for rot down there, even as I try to encourage more roots higher up.

The starts on the new pot are growing nicely:

Not a lot of news really. I moved everything back to the greenhouses because I needed the space under the lights for spring propagation (it's nice to have the equipment/space to fool around with in the off-season, but in March production gets serious).

The second pot above looks a lot like the first one now, and because I've been observing strict quarantine protocols with it, it gets to live in the propagation greenhouse:

(Ignore the two seedlings in the near section of the pot. I pushed a couple kumquat seeds in just for fun, since there was so much unused media around the banana.)

The one remaining section of banana in the subtropicals greenhouse is doing some interesting things with the increased light/heat/humidity. I should go snap a shot of it. I also should start thinking about carving up the first pot to produce stand-alone plants. I'm working long hours in the propagation areas these days, but I'll get to it when I can. If the material is suitable, I could start it through the quarantine cycle to produce plants while I wait for the other one to mature enough.
