PURPLE CHEETAH is one of my favorites. The color and the "splotching" are very attractive and give it distinction, IMHO. It does show a "cooler" look when photographed in the early AM. In my zone 6/7 garden, it has increased well and is a vigorous bloomer. I've only had it for three years. This one will be on the Stout Medal list soon, and will likely have a good shot to win that award.

Here are a couple of pics taken here at different times of the day. The first was taken very early AM, the second mid- morning, the last on a cooler morning .

I don't have it, but it is definitely one that is on my wish list. Very, very unique looking blooms! I am quite taken with it!

Here is Gossard's webpage about it: http://www.daylilynet.com/purp...

The price is coming down and will one day be in my price range .... Thumbs up Smiling

Wow, 'Purple Cheetah' sure is a beauty!!

@beckygardener Do dormant DL's do well that far south in Sebastian? I'm new to Daylilies and I heard that since I live in Florida I should only go with semi-evergreen or evergreen types. I'm 100 miles north of you but we'll be moving down to Sebastian next May. The DL's I currently have are all evergreen or semi-evergreen (all in containers) and if they survive until then, they are coming south with us! Green Grin!

I will add that here in 7A, PC loses it's "cheetah spots" in high humidity. I sent 4 fans to a friend in 10A and he reports that he only saw the spots in early spring and then PC experienced summer dormancy. So it makes me curious as to how PC does in a dry high heat state like Arizona.

Also, for whatever reason, thrips seem to leave PC alone.

Love this one! I have had it in my garden since 2014 and it grows well, blooms fantastic. Shorter than the registered 32" but that might show as I give it time to clump up. I did not try to set pod. Pollen works.

Love what you teach and teach what you love!

I planted Purple Cheetah, purchased from Pat Ball, in September 2020. It went into the new Patio Bed. This summer, it went to town. A strong and beautiful Daylily!. It threw 17 flowers, beginning July 10 and ending August 5, so almost a month. Not bad for a plant that is less than a year in the ground!. I have to say, looking at my pics, that only one of my blooms did not have the spots. Maybe, it has to be cool enough to bring them out. Love this flower!

2022, a great year for Purple Cheetah. Blooming from July 9- August 1, it threw 31 flowers from 3 fans. By October, it had 4 fans and a bad case of rust. I did notice that the spots weren't as prominent this season as it was very hot during the blooming period.

2023 update…PC bloomed from July 9- August 1, the exact same dates as last year, except this year it produced at least 50 flowers. By October, it had grown two more fans to end at 6. A very strong plant here in zone 6! Many of the Gossards like my yard.
