OK - thanks guys. I tried them and got no joy. Especially for the price. Rather absurd. They are just like rock wool cubes, but different material. I have also tried all the expansion pellets (3 different brands) and don't like them either.

I would guess that I have tried pretty much everything that is available.

In the end, I always come back to plain old seed starting media in plain old plastic cell trays - either 72 or 36. Regarding the trays, I have tried those that have > 72 cells; e.g. 244, 288 etc. I failed. I think to use those effectively, one must have a misting system.

It works for me. Now if something else works for others - fine. nodding

My previous 2 attempts of plumeria seeds were vastly different even though I used the same media and method which was the Miracle Grow cactus mix and seed trays. One variety had 20 seeds and 11 germinated, the second batch only one germinated out of 16. I guess I'm still a newbie at plumeria seeds and am paying $9 for 20 seeds so am willing to experiment until I find what works best for me. I'd probably have better results if I started seeds in spring/summer but I got the bug back in November and can't help it Rolling on the floor laughing

@Bradfish83 Don't feel alone Gerald Smiling We like to see those seeds grow too! Check out Brad's Buds and Blooms. Great variety of seeds in ever changing varieties at decent prices and shipping is not bad. I *Blush* to think how many different types I've ordered there. Whether you order 5 or 10 seeds of a kind, I've found there are always a few extra in the package. Hurray! So far, great germination rates too. The first seeds I purchased from another source were truly just kind of pieces of seeds and wings and nothing germinated. Thumbs down

Ouch. I got 40 seeds total of 6 varieties from BBB for $13.80 including shipping. And I am getting very high germination.

@Dutchlady1 Thank You! for the reminder, Hetty. I'm all ears! I'm so awash in plumeria love I am just enjoying seeing the little plants grow Lovey dubby AND, as you said, they are trees! Can't help myself. Hope my friends will appreciate their gifted plants!

I transplanted one today. Took it outside as we are in the 70's today. Will bring it inside this evening as nights are still in the 40's. An experiment to see how it does.

All of my seeds came from Brad Buds and Bloom and from my own plumeria. Exotic Plumeria sells "seedpods" if you want a lot of seeds of same variety.

Sadly I have read that many time and accepted that when I started this seed journey. I am hoping there's a chance, or to at least to be close to the parent?

Well...... it can be, or it can be COMPLETELY different.

Here is an example: A Florida Colors original named 'Fletch'

pod parent is 'Mardi Gras'

Thank you for the illustration, Hetty. One looks almost "neon" and the other more water colored. Quite a contrast!

I have another different seedling growing under my lights. First, the twin seedling of Vera Cruz Rose and now an albino seedling of Chompoo Silpa(sp?). Am assuming this won't continue to grow since there is no visible chlorophyll. It is interesting Confused

@GigiPlumeria....guess that makes it all the more exciting when a seedling blooms!

That albino seedling does look like a mushroom in the picture! Not a very good pic. It is still holding on this morning.

We are in for what will hopefully be our final cold spell at the end of the weekend. Will bring my little Vera Cruz Rose seedling back inside under the lights for the duration. Loving the T5 lights and heat mats. Have another heat mat and smaller light for another room *Blush* Never enough of those!

At what point...temperature wise... Will it be "safe" to take seedlings out from under indoor lights to outside? Within a week we are predicted to have 50's at night and 80's for daytime temps. We've been in a cold spell the past several days with freezing temps at night. Grumbling Everything has been back inside for the duration of those low temps. Thanks Confused I'm all ears!

For me at least, Mary, when the low temperatures stay at or above 55F (so long as the highs are above 70F), I have no qualms about moving my plumeria outside. What size are those seedlings? Have you up-potted them yet?

@drdawg Thank You! Ken. Looks like we will be right around 50 at night. Will wait a while to let them spend the night outside. Seedlings are growing well and I really do need to up-pot quite a few. Have avoided it due to space available under lights. I did up-pot one as an experiment...taking it out during the day and bringing in at night. Drilled holes in a regular sized plastic solo cup (8 or 12oz) with a mixture of perlite and seedling mix and it is doing well. It was started in a jiffy pellet, so I removed the netting before transplanting ( @DavidLMO I was pretty nervous...but did not damage the roots). Seedlings are now 3-4 inches above soil line with 3-4 true leaves and some putting on the next set of leaves. Very interesting to see the different leaf shapes and even leaf color in different varieties. Guess I could up-pot more since they can go out during day for light and heat and back in at night since they won't need the light at night. We are now around 10 hours 40 minutes of daylight. Monday is predicted to be 84! Can't wait.
