Does 'dip' mean in a liquid anti-fungal or does she just 'shake and bake' them in powdered stuff.

Like Geof, I sell and trade my dahlias. I will not have my list, obviously, until I dig the clumps, which probably won't be for a couple or three weeks. I have a friend who digs hers before it gets too cold for her to work outside. Her 3 adult children and husband all help dig and she and her hubby (and sometimes me) wash the clumps, cut off the feeder roots, and dunk them in an anti-fungal solution. She likes to do all of the cutting herself.

The attached photo is Crazy 4 Jessie. Cheers!

Donna

Donna,
It's beautiful! I have a purple one that has the same shape, and appears to be the same size range (huge:). Let me know when your list is ready. I'm definitely interested in Crazy 4 Jessie Lovey dubby

Thanks,
Regina

Perhaps we should consolidate the threads of those who wish to trade/buy here at ATP. I put my dahlias (in clumps) to storage about a week ago (over the period of a week) and want to go see how it is working. A new system of storage. I will venture down into the crawl space today and see how they are.

Mary Stella,
She literally dips them in a liquid anti-fungal solution. She does not use the sulphur "shake and bake" method.

I will not have much to sell or trade in the spring. I dug my tubers yesterday and they are puny, so I doubt they will make it through the winter. Crying

I absolutely must get mine up out of the crawl space or they will all rot. I have been so busy, and honestly the thought of crawling down the short steep ladder to the crawl space and retrieving them, much less the work of cutting them up and restoring them just makes me want to go take a nap or read a book. Today for sure i will start.

Thanks for the response. I think the shake and bake method hold moisture in the tubers more than protects them so they rot more easily. At least that seemed to be the results a few winters ago.

I just posted my list of available tubers for spring 2016.

There were quite a few that I only got 3-4 tubers from, and I am holding 3 of each for myself. So..... some that I grew are very limited, or not available. There are others that I grew 2-3 plants of that made lots of tubers, so I have an abundance.

http://garden.org/lists/view/m...

I am interested in trading for other Dahlia tubers, but I am also interested in trading for Lilies and Iris. I also placed an ad in the ATP classifieds where I am also offering them for sale at 2.50 each with a minimum order of 6.

Since as we know - sometimes tubers don't make it through the winter - what I do is reserve tubers as people ask for them, and then review/revise that in the spring when I unpack them. Then I contact folks about payment and / or shipping in April.

Send me a tree-mail if there are tubers you want me to put your names on.

Someone posted all the dahlias I posted this year to the dahlia database. Not sure what I think about that. They aren't even the best pictures just the ones I currently had. I guess I need to ask Dave if I can delete them one at a time and post the better ones I have for each one.

I finished going through all my bags and they are back in the basement except for three that need more serious cinnamon treatment. Should be interesting to see how they are in January. I have many with pips and small to 3" growth started. Really hate when that happens as it seems to take some of the vitality from the tuber. -5 last night and supposed to be colder today. But hey we are half way through November on our way to spring. lol

I'll be digging dahlias this week. We still haven't had a frost but after a few windy days the poor dahlias are begging for a rest until spring.

Amazing how far apart we are in weather. Not so obvious in summer but come fall and winter it really shows its true colors. lol. Good digging.

We are having the mildest fall weather that I remember here. It feels more like St.Louis where I grew up.

Today it is 60 and sunny, but by next weekend it is supposed to be colder with possible flurries. People around here start complaining if there isn't snow on the ground when Deer Season kicks in.

Hope the digging goes smoothy Arlene!

Thanks, Geoff. I was very brave and divided the dahlias as I dug them - only about 10 so far. One was hopeless with a weak stem but no big loss. Ferncliff Copper is the winner so far! With my tremors, combined with sharp tools, I was hesitant to try but once I did the first three the confidence grew. Of course, I couldn't spot any eyes but another dahlia lover said he cuts back the stem and tries to divide in thirds or fourths; it worked! Spring will tell me if it's a plan than works for me. I hope so! It was great digging weather at 53 with barely a breeze and full sunshine.

The weather is turning here - rain for the next 3 days, and possibly snow in the weekend as temps drop. Not complaining as we have had such nice weather this Fall.

I left quite a few of my smaller tubers in clumps of 2-4 this year. I hear they hold up better than individually if the tubers are smallish. I can always divide them further in the spring, if they get multiple sprouts.

Arlene & Mary....I have already had 9 responses to my offer of trades/sales - so if there is anything on my list that you really want you should let me know, they are disappearing fast.

Since I was out digging from 10 AM to 4 PM (in temperatures in the mid 50's with glorious sunshine), and 20 still remain to be dug, I will have to take a pass this year...I think. LOL I'll look again later

I'm in the same boat sort of. I must have over 80 bags in the basement and most of those bags hold between 2-10 tubers or clumps. I think come spring I will be plenty busy between them and AGB. Thanks for the offer though. Thank You!

so... anyone here in Canada with dahlias for sale? Used to be a good number of folks in Canada with them to sell, but I have been hunting, and I guess they have died or given up for the most part! I would love to get some from USA, but think I would need a phyto certificate, and dont want to invest THAT much at this time...so...anyone in Canada on this list?

I have heard good things about these folks, and I know there are other reputable dahlia farms in Canada, but I haven't seen any Canadians in this dahlia forum.
