Yeah - she was apparently saving up to bloom this year. She did bloom the summer I planted her but that was it for a while. Every spring I think she's pretty much toast but she comes back! Right now I think she's 6 or 7 fans. It's something with Petit plants. I have several and they seem to take a while to get used to being up this way. They're usually worth the wait though so I keep em around.

Petit is in the south (maybe Florida)? Perhaps his plants are bred for warmer climates?

Yes, they are in Florida. I don't have the same issue with plants from other parts of Florida but maybe the genetics in his lines want something they don't get right away in my garden.

A few blooms from the last week:

TUTANKHAMUN - Registered in 1978 with no indication of rebloom, but I have 3 scapes right now.

OUTER SPACE - Sent by Bill Maryott within the last month, and the weather cooled way down before this bloom opened and I got no complex pattern -- but I really like it and it does remind me of a dip, even though it's a tet.

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA - I've had this plant for about two years and these are the first two blooms -- and I love it!
FFOE - Taken on an overcast day

And this morning's bloom, in early morning sunshine and shade

Right before the huge frost that we had this past weekend, I ran out and cut the scapes on the two Oktoberfests and one other Maryott daylily that I got this summer (name is currently escaping me). Well the Oktoberfests have been happily blooming all week and the third one is getting ready to open up tomorrow.. maybe.

Loving that the Oktoberfest is an extended bloomer. I have three blossoms open today and they still look great.

Heidi,
Why did you cut the scapes on Oktoberfests and the other plants? Will the blooming in the late fall affect the spring blooming or will the frost damage the scape?

Lovely blooms, Pat, Becky and Betty!!
Pat the usual reason for cutting the scapes for new plant this late in the season is: (1) There will not be sufficient time for it to bloom this season based on the zone. (2) For that fact the scapes are cut to let the plant use its energy to produce more root output before the deep freeze and reduce stress on the plant. (3) Some gardeners just cut them as principle this late in the year. Personally I let the frost determine that for me. There's no guarantee that that plant will bloom next year, but you give it a better chance by reducing the stress level.
A few blooms seen here lately!

Thanks Mike, it's going to be hard for me to cut the bloom on Nocturnal Butterfly, as I just want to see how she looks in my garden.

Mike - Beautiful collection of late bloomers!

I was wondering why some folks cut the scapes of newly acquired daylily plants. Thanks for that information!

I have more blooms on Zoe Allegra and noticed scapes now on Marilyn Morss Johnson. (It also came from Maryott's in Sept.). Can't wait to see the blooms on that one!

Becky, did you get blooms yet on Zoe Allegra or Marilyn Morss Johnson. I thinking about ordering that one in the spring.

Pat - Yes, my Zoe Allegra bloomed for the first time on 10/19/2015 and has a few buds still left to bloom. I just this week posted some photos I took of the first bloom (which all of the blooms look just like it):

Afternoon bloom:

Morning Bloom:

In fact, you even gave me a thumbs up for both those photos being added to the Plant Database! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Marilyn Morss Johnson will probably bloom it's first bloom for me sometime in the next few days. I counted 9 buds on a very sturdy stalk. These stalks are short because the plants were recently divided, shipped to me, and replanted in my new raised bed. But to look at the blooms, you'd never know it wasn't established! The blooms on ZA delighted me! Big Grin

Wow...I love it when the blooms are still coming in November. Bill Maryott said that shipping starts in June and I can't wait. I had two of his plants bloom for me in October and I've never had that before. Mineral Springs and Bright in the Night both bloomed after receiving them in July. I have a bud on Nocturnal Butterfly that may or may not make it. We have had rain and drizzle for a week now and it's not letting up until Tuesday.

I don't know if it's worth posting a new thread for November blooms or not, but I just noticed my Penny's worth sending up a rebloom scape. It had a decently long bloom period earlier in the summer, so I'm surprised it is pushing up another. I have a feeling tonight's freeze is going to zap it, but here are the little bitty buds:

Thumb of 2015-11-07/DogsNDaylilies/e99765

My buds on Lakes Swan Dance still haven't opened, but they are bigger than they were, which means they survived the last cold zap. With luck, they will survive tonight's, too.

Can you cover them with a cardboard box or something?

I have Marilyn Morss Johnson loaded with buds and will probably start blooming sometime next week. The last bloom on Zoe Allegra will be blooming in the next couple of days. I might start a November thread.

Also, I am getting unusually warm weather. This feels like summer still in central Florida. I have other plants blooming that have never bloomed this time of year. I think the plants think it is Spring/Summer already! We just skipped Fall/Winter and they are putting out blooms! I can say that my over-wintering Ruby-throated hummingbirds are delighted as they are zipping through my yard chasing each other. Whistling Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Last Wednesday, I had two blooms on Moonlit Masquerade, another bloom on Thursday, another on Friday with 4 more buds to go. The last blooms I have ever had on my daylilies has been about the middle of September. What a nice surprise in November in Tennessee. I'm a happy girl.

Carolyn - Did you get any bloom photos? I'll start a November thread if you did so you can post the photos for November! I will post my two cultivar blooms there, too!

Becky - Thanks but my pictures really aren't that good. Took the pictures on my phone. The last blooms were a little deformed looking. I'll keep watch on the remaining buds and try for a better picture. A cold front is coming so I am not expecting all those remaining buds to even open.

I actually just went out there with some ziplock baggies and bagged my two rose buds and the buds forming on Lakes Swan Dance.

Penny's worth is in a darker, father away corner of my yard, so it can fend for itself tonight Hilarious!

I did pile some leaves around Penny's Worth earlier today to give it some protection, so as long as the wind doesn't pick up too much, it should help. And even if the wind does pick up, it might just bring more leaves to collect around it because Penny's worth is up against an eastern corner of a raised bed, so the wind from the southwest collects the leaves in that spot anyway. Big Grin Fingers crossed.
