Steve, we don't have a picture of this one in the database. Would you mind adding it? I'd do it for you, but I don't do that without permission!

CLOWN PANTS

My wife is not a fan....hoho!

Steve

Welcome, Steve! Beautiful seedling! Is it TET or DIP? Is it out of Pink Stripes?

Leslie,

Since you started this topic, I guess you have every right to change it...lol. But we are waaaay off track!

CLOWN PANTS is a TET, 33 X 5, 4 way branching, 20 buds. Cross is DR. VAN'S LILY MERLOT (mine) X EIGHT MILES HIGH. Never set a pod on CP, but the pollen is great. Will be planting 4 seeds of EXPLOSION AT THE PAINT FACTORY X CP very soon!

Big Grin :does a cha-ching and a tiny litty jiggy dance:

That just made me very excited! Hurray!

I was going to try and track down the TET Pink Stripes, but I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out of your EATPFxCP cross! Do you know, yet, if CP throws its stripes in its children? That's what I really need, actually. Whether it's pod or pollen, I need some way of creating stripey babies for a daylily that I will be hybridizing for in the future. (Well, already am hybridizing for it, but I'm only in the beginning stages and I imagine a few different generations will be involved before I reach my goal.)

It's a love it or hate it thing I think...lol. I got 12 seeds in all from EATPFXCP. I sold 4 (because that's what I do), Rich has 4 and then 4 for me. It could be awful, or something great. I haven't seen any CP kids yet. My guess is that the weirdness comes from DR. VAN'S LILY MERLOT only because I have seen a lot of weirdness from other Dr. Kids. I haven't seen enough other seedlings from EIGHT MILES HIGH to know. I also tried CP on things like COBRASKIN NECKTIE, and back again on DVLM kids. I have no idea what I am doing, or where it's headed....but that's part of the fun. Steve

Below are images of DR. VAN'S LILY MERLOT and some kids.

The DVML kids are fantastic! I wasn't sure about the second one at first. I thought it looked water logged or something. Clicking on the picture made all the difference. I love stripes and splotches and other weird things!

If you can track it down, SHATTERED may be another one to cross for tet 'striped' plants. It would seem, though, that the plant is like rain in California - desperately wanted and nowhere to be found!

Thanks James,

That looks like a great choice. Come to think of it, I may have that plant out in the parkway....long forgotten. I will check my maps. I know that I have some stuff from Gayle.

And a special hello to Teresa! Long time ago we were in Lilychat together and also had the honor of attending the very first Gala in Kentucky at Rice's. That was my last daylily event...lol.

I did buy DeGROOVIE (I think it is) and ALIEN GALLAXY to cross with CP next year, just to see what would happen.

Back on topic....seeds prices are soaring again!

Thanks for the help,

Steve

Well...should you have a piece to spare... Whistling Hilarious!

I know Bill Waldrop has it - he posted on his blog a while ago that he was crossing it with UNDEFINABLE and since I think he has converted PINK STRIPES, possibly that one as well!

You're correct...another auction for 4 seeds is at $130 right now. :blinking:

I'm kind of surprised your 50 green throated seeds isn't higher to be honest. I'm also surprised Betty ( @Betja ) isn't the high bidder! Big Grin

I clicked on the link again, to see what the auction ended at, and I guess once it is done, the link doesn't work. I stayed just long enough to see those 50 green throated seeds! I haven't found my wallet yet, but what a great price - so far!

Well,

Thank goodness for maps. The Bad news is that it is not
SHATTERED, the Good news is that it is BROKEN PROMISES, which is the parent of SHATTERED I believe. So, still a great idea James!

And I was happy with the 50 seed offer on the LA final price. You know, I have been selling seeds since 2002, and you just never know what will sell. There are so many good crosses, I am just grateful that they sell at all. I watched your crosses this year, James, and thought they were outstanding.

Oh yeah - could be a really good way to tease out the same genes that led to SHATTERED.

And that's very kind of you Steve. Sometimes I think I know what I'm doing. Other times I go pick a pod, look at the tag, and can't for the life of me figure out what I was thinking! Sticking tongue out

Lol James,

Some of my "what was I thinking" crosses have been my best. Some of my clearest goals and practices have resulted in zip. My opinion only, there is no such thing as a sure thing, and there is no such thing as a bad cross.

Of course, my cataracts are getting worse, so that may be part of it...hoho.

James threw me when he posted last week was his last week. I was "laying in the veeds", on some, Whistling and poof they are gone Blinking Probably a good thing, got enough coming as it is, but........got my MCO genes and plenty more.
Now I need me a 'lily pad' , better get at it before poof they are gone too.

Sorry! I will keep you in mind next year - I have the conversion of MCO as well but the 3 buds I had this year were stolen by a small woodland creature who was promptly evicted.
