I think the palm got too much sun in there, some of its leaves even look scorched..also that yellowish green doesn't look natural..

Thanks Janet and Lin for the link, it does look like a match, apart from the pronounced red-orange crown shaft, maybe mine lost its colour because it doesn't look happy?

I saw now pictures where the shaft is not so pronounced red-orange,
but still i haven't seen one where the fruiting bodies turn from yellowish to black like in mine..?
But it definitely must be a an Areca sp..

Those with black fruiting bodies look to be far more mature than the yellow ones Myriam, I wonder if they stay on the tree over two seasons of fruiting? Notice on the groups of black ones that some stems are almost bare, the seeds most likely have been harvested or dropped off. They are also below the yellow ones.

Look at the mature seeds ....

https://www.google.co.uk/searc...

Most photos show the bunches of fruits to be more stiff and branched, maybe the conditions the palm is growing in has affected the way they grow? I found a photo which shows fruits which look like the later photo of unripe fruits #4 although the bunch does appear more stiff, could that be to do with the amount of light? The ends of the fruiting stems look dried up on this photo ..

The rarepalmseeds site has just about every palm there is, I looked at other Areca species and they are different. There is a rare yellow form ..

There's a lot of photos on palmpedia showing variations, read the description ..

Yes, I see Janet that the mature fruits become black, the strange thing is that in mine there is not the in-between stage of red fruit, only the yellow and the black..
But I think you're right and as they look to be variable, mine probably is the one as it couldn't be another Areca sp...

Looks very similar to a Pinanga. I have several Pinanga with a similar form.

Areca vestiaria has orange to red crownshafts, and the seeds are red and oval (football shaped).

Pinanga coronata! Strange flowers!

It's mentioned on that other place by Monocromatico as being in the Rio de Janeiro gardens ..

It's listed on the gardens website ..

Pinanga caesia and Pinanga coronata both look very similar to mine!
But as it is listed in the seedlings for sale (interesting to know they sell seedlings!) from the botanical garden of Rio de Janeiro I think I should go for the last one..
Thank you Dave and Janet! Thumbs up

Pinanga caesia has purple as well as yellow on the crownshaft Myriam.

Thanks to Dave for the genus lead. I tip my hat to you.
