All About Petunias

Petunias are one of the most popular bedding plants ever grown. Among the array of colors, shapes, sizes and habits available, there is bound to be something to please every gardener. It wasn't always like this though.

Larry, you have taken something as simple as the petunia and made it interesting!

I do love my petunias...remember them from my dad and mom's flower patches as a child.

my Grandmother had them reseed in the cracks of the sidewalk in front of our house.. I used to protect them from the other kids stomping all over them Big Grin

Good to hear from you, Maridell! Glad you found the article interesting. Our favorite flowers just keep evolving, thanks mostly to Gregor Mendel, who first described hybridization and experimented with it.

who knew??? Grandma on Mom's side.. Grandpa on Dad's side.. both gardeners.. guess it was fate .. but wish I would have paid attention to the masters.. other than my Grandpa took us swimming in a bay while he collected seaweed for his veggie gardens ... we used to get him the big chunks out further .. best pickles ever!!!

Sea weed! My dad would hitch up a home made wood trailer to the car and head out to a farm that would sell him a load of horse manure to amend his garden in the spring. eeewwww!

My dad was the gardener and grew the most wonderful tomatos....I agree, I wish I had paid more attention. But, I kind of think he like being out there on his own. Hilarious!
