Not tried this lily but it was suggested as one of the easiest to grow and very showy...
so trying 3 of them and see how it grows here

anyone planted this lily?

I have a stand of superbum. It took two years to bloom. They seem to like it on the moist side. Bloom this year was a little more sparse(year six), but I had added a hydrangea nearby, and I beleive I had planted it too close. It was apparantly suckling up some of the moisture that the superbum needed. I replanted last week a little farther away. The bulbs look robust, with nice increase. Be patient, and water a bit at least once a week. I hope this is helpful.

well we get tons of snow here and the spring is usually pretty we due to the rain and then the summer is quite dry
depending on when this plant blooms I will water it and hope it blooms
I have 3 of them so will see how it goes

Argh. Had these for six years now. I did move them last fall. They came up....grew normally. We have not been wet in the sense that there have been alot of measurable rain....but it has been wet in the number of days that there has been rain. Yesterday they just wilted...the whole stem. Along with a few other stems not nearby like red velvet. Why...do you think?

I planted a small stem of it but it went into shock and died off. Hoping next year will be better for it

Some martagons can take 3 years or longer for their first bloom. @leftwood might be able to give you more info on them

I have purposely not grown L.superbum because of all the reports of it getting so tall. Just today I visited a North Star Lily Society member's garden. She has a Lilium superbum: it is one hefty stalk, already seven feet tall, and the inflorescence hasn't even elongated yet (all the buds are just showing clumped together at the tip).

As she was telling me about it, she mentioned that two years ago she had transplanted three bulbs from the front of the garden to the back, and she lost two of them. She said someone had told her she was risking losing the bulbs if she did any transplanting with this species, something I never would have guessed, and still wonder about.

All this said, I did break down and do have some L. superbum seedlings from Joe Nemmer's seed.

I wonder if any one has done any research on raising martagon's from seed vs from bulbs? Specifically if the seed raised are more tolerant of conditions as they reach bulb size.

I grew a white martagon Lilium from seeds - it bloomed from the 2nd or 3rd year on. Unfortunately, it did not bloom last season - I still have to check if the rodents ate not only the foliage but the bulb as well.

I bought it once. It lasted one season.

Can someone tell me what this looks like when it comes out of the ground.
There is a few lilies here in the new beds that resemble sorta the look of a tiger strand and have not opened yet but are budding and dropping already
the tigers are way off the blooming time here so wander if this is superbu
