Sweet Star from White Flower Farms. I have mixed feelings about this one. It was big and showy, a nice pink, but the blooms did not last quite as long as I would have expected.

Very nice, lovely shade of pink, shame the blooms didn't last.

The Samba and the Sweet Star are both very pretty! I like the delicate pink of the Sweet Star.

I was just noticing today how many of my amaryllises are in the dark pink/red range--guess I need to think about some variety for next year!

Rosy Star from White Flower Farms. A very pretty midsized pink on white bloom with a green heart. I had one last year, and liked it so much that I bought another one this season.

Mandela from Royal Colors The midsized bloom is much nicer in person. Digital photos don't do very well with reds. This one is a 'venous' blood red that darkens as it ages. Many reds become badly stained with pollen, but this one is doing quite well in that regards. Its producing pollen which is easily brushed off the petals without leaving a mess.

I agree

I especially love deep reds. Thank you for sharing the photo and description, I think I will add it to my wish list for further contemplation.

Coral Beach from White Flower Farms. This is really pretty: a midsize bloom with a picotee edge, coral pink with raspberry center. a lot of pink spots on the back of the bloom. A lot of variation in the patterning. This has to be a close relative of Temptation. It reminds so much of that cultivar.

Pink Glory from Royal Colors. This is a stunning pink and white double. It opens up quickly and becomes ruffled as it ages. Reminds me of a peony. This bulb only produced one scape. I'm hoping that I will be surprised by a second scape later in the winter.

Coral Beach really does remind me of Temptation as well. I initially thought that's what the pic was until reading the type.

I have a question...how long is the necessary resting period from bulbs left outside for the summer and re-bloom time inside?
I've usually not set them up for re-bloom until I've noted them initiate new green which sometimes doesn't get noticed till like March.
Nothing that's been done can ever be changed.

@jmorth , I had a bunch of amaryllis bulbs outside this summer. I brought them in October and they bloomed right around Christmas. (Strangely, I also ended up with a few blooms during the summer and fall while they were outside.)

I have an amaryllis care question. Once the bloom is spent, how much should I cut back? Just the blossom, or further down the stalk? I know with daffs and such, it's important to leave the stalks and stems so the bulb can store energy. Is the same true for amaryllis?

I've also noticed that at the base of each blossom is a bulge, kind of like rose hips. Should I leave these or prune them off?

thanks for any tips!

I usually cut the stalks as low as possible and remove them.
Nothing that's been done can ever be changed.

Robin, cut the stalks off about an inch or so above the bulb, check out my tip. http://garden.org/ideas/view/m...
