I have two lovely shrubs, almost 2 mt tall, I grew from two cuttings a neighbour gave me 3 or 4 years ago who doesn't know it's name. The shrubs are deliciously fragrant and in full bloom this spring.

Thumb of 2015-10-27/Mutisia/edc6e5

Can you help me identify it, please?

I don't know - aren't all Jasmines vines? This is a shrub.

The name Jasmine can be confusing, most people think of the vine with the common name Asiatic Jasmine (Trachelospermum asiaticum) which isn't a true Jasmine.

There are a few Jasminum shrubs and some Jasminum can have the vine form but can also be trained as a shrub:
Poet's Jasmine (Jasminum officinale)
Star Jasmine (Jasminum laurifolium var. laurifolium)

Forgot to say, the leaves on your plant don't look like Tea Olive (Osmanthus fragrans) to me but hopefully others will be able to offer suggestions.

@Mutisia T. jasminoides is a versatile plant that can be a groundcover, a vine or a shrubby hedge.

Look at Trachelospermum jasminoides Confederate or star jasmine It would be blooming in the southern hemisphere now.

Thank you for you input Lin and Jean!

The leaves of Trachelospermum look glossy - mine are hairy. The flowers look much bigger than the ones of my shrubs. Also, the scent of my flowers is a tidy bit frutier than Jasminums.

Ooh, when I was googling I found a similar plant with hairy/fuzzy leaves ... let me see if I can find it again ... it wasn't Jasmine but maybe had a common name of Jasmine.

be right back. Green Grin!

Well dang Grumbling I know when I was googling, I read about a white flowering shrub with pubescent leaves but I thought the flowers were too large to be a match ... and now I can't find it and I don't remember the name! I'll keep looking.

I was Googling for Osmanthus species, but found none to match my shrubs. I wonder how I got to the idea it might be an Osmanthus ...... Sticking tongue out Whistling Sticking tongue out Whistling Sticking tongue out Whistling

Beautiful, but not the same as mine. The flowers of J. pubescens seem much larger than mine.

Ursula, I found this Flora of Chile site. It seems to be a really good place to search. As I have time I will look, but wanted to post it for you to look also.

I know the site, Jean. It belongs to a Russian guy that depredates our flora. Despite owing land enough in southern Chile, he does not grow any of the plants of the seeds he sells. He even sells seeds of endangered species (prohibited to collect seeds in the wild), such as Leontochir ovallei, syn. Bomarea ovalliei, which would not grow in his climate anyway. It seems he has 'teams' of poor people collecting seeds for him all along Chile.

I met the guy (must have been 2009) on a Chilean Native Flora congress at the Universidad de Chile. As soon as he opened his mouth, everybody knew who he was - some reacted quite agressively towards him and he left the premises that day.

Persona non grata!

I wonder if it could be in the genus Cestrum?

I looked at Cestrum parqui last night. It has yellow flowers, is called Green Cestrum and the info said the flowers have an unpleasant odor by day, but fragrant at night. Common name Willow Cestrum
