Jamie, you're funny! How is your sore leg feeling? I hope you didn't set back the healing with all your activity today.

Good deal on the bulbs. Who could resist? Most of my daffys came out of a bin at the end of the gardening season, priced at 5 cents each. I fished around and found a few dozen that were still firm, most bloomed the next spring, and they've multiplied, been moved around, multiplied and put on a nice show every spring. Well worth the $ and the effort.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

Leg still sore and swollen Mary (thanks) but I could even do a little ladder climbing (with spotter) and use a shovel for shallow digging for the first time today. Funny 'cuz I can't do real stairs very well yet, but the ladder rungs are closer I guess.

Wow! Really good price on the daffs! I love it when they naturalize. These tulips still were right around 28 cents a piece, but not the price I usually pay. They were out of daffs and the tulips were in bags of 10 so you couldn't really pick through them. Only a few seemed bad though most were very nice (said 'thank you' as they nestled down under the dirt) and they look to be good bulbs too.

I might even go back for some more...I just love them all over the place to mark the end of winter. Nice thing about spring bulbs is that the trees haven't leafed yet so I don't have to worry so much about lack of sun like I do with later plants. Oh! I met a lot of nice worms today as well (and even helped them multiply).

Allison, apparently not: http://www.wormfarmguide.com/e... (but you just can't help leaving their tail behind as fertilizer once in a while. At least they still live poor things).

Oh Brenda, every year I say 'no more' I'm just an addict. Too, perennials require moves and replacement and likely as much work and money as annuals. So every year, I try to journal for the next. Then in the doldrums of winter our kindly mail carrier stuffs my box with lovely pictures and I simply fall into the catalogues. And NOW!...even electronic media is nice enough to help me feed my habit!

I know YOUR gardens are! Mine are never done Cece, but come in waves over the season, I put a log album for myself by date on FB because I never remember what is where and what comes when, what needs replacement or moving.

If you want to see (some of my wild little mess) in date order, I believe this 'album' should be public. http://www.facebook.com/media/...

I think the prettiest time is early July when there are still iris and lilies begin: a very good time for some lemonade or cocktail in the sunshine!

They are Rudbeckia Herbstonee that I got mail order several years ago. They come back every year but my neighbor and I have both tried growing them from seed (that there is plenty of) without success. They provide nice foliage before blooming and last right into fall (a few are still yellow). Here's the May, June, July, August progression:

Oh! The yellow in the May photo is daffs, the Rudbeckia don't start blooming until about mid July.

Put them in water and add a drop of two of Hydrogen Peroxide. Give them some light and change the water every few days, adding the peroxide. I don't know how this works or why but it does. When you see the lentils swell (the little white knubbies you can either leave them in the water till actual roots form or you can pot them up. I have been reading on the Village GardenWeb that you can leave rooting cutting in the water all winter providing you change the water often. I've potted a bunch of mine up but there are still a few that are all rooted and I'm going to leave till spring, unless they start showing signs of decline.

Once you pot them give them good sunlight and watch them take off, Careful of spider mites and white flies. If they have keaves n the cuttings the bigger ones will turn yelllow and fall off. Oh well, they replace them quick enough. Do you have named ones or noids??

I don't know, I think Sherri knows what they are, I will have to ask her. If I recall when she last showed a picture it was sort of a peach color.

3% hydrogen peroxide or 20%/ ... have both. I 'spose with a few drops it doesn't matter. All parts are poisonous, right? I have to be careful because, even though he would never touch a potted plant indoors, Inky DOES chomp on dropped leaves.

Thank you for the help on these, I've been wanting to try them for ever so long, then WilliamByrd had me on the list for a Miss Doris cutting but when Doris's porch plants froze last spring I asked him to send her mine.

3%!!! I think it has something to do with allowing O2 to pass through. I really don't know. Yes all parts of the plant is poisonous. I think Inky will understand when you say absolutely must NOT try these for any type of after meal mint..........

Just be careful Jamie. these plants creep up on you and before you know it you hooked BIG time. I started out with 3 and now have 27 with about 12 cuttings potted up and another 4 or 5 in water rooting............... That is AFTER another person 3 rooted and 2 un-rooted cuttings today.............. I had 30 but left 3 outside and I have their cuttings in water.............

Oh, I'll be okay Cece...when you see this place you will understand. In the winter I have SOOO many plants come in and as a little old home, it has just a few windows with decent light.....now if I had a room like you built on...well!....THEN it might get dangerous!

Yes, Inky makes me laugh how much he understands. In the summer, the palms and large potted plants go outside. When I take them out he has an inkling to (help) pee on them. He will go there...lift his leg a little and look at me. If I say, "I don't care...go ahead..", he will christen the plant for summer. When I bring them in he asks the same question. I tell him, 'absolutely NOT buddy...they're inside now!" He says "okay, I get it", and it's over.

The leaves he chomps are usually ones that come in with his paws or ears. Thank goodness for wood floors. I keep a broom on the porch and every other day or so I pretend I live in "Little House on the Prairie" and out they go!
