Dave my next question probably won't pertain to the first swap but later ones. How do we list daylily seeds that we hybridized ourselves?

Ideally we could import the pod & pollen parents from our (or the plant) database with pictures so people could tell right away if they'd be interested in the cross. But could we also have the option of adding our own picture if either parent is unregistered or a NOID? We could add the details of the unregistered plant in the comments section.

Finally, I'm a bit confused as to what the photo of the packet is for. Should we take pictures of the commercial seed packet? I can, but I'm not sure why.

I practiced making a list.
I found the edit feature but it will not allow me to edit the name of the plant. Can't fix a typo in the plant name. I had to delete the plant and re-enter it.

The plants are alphabetical by common name. I think it should be by botanical name like our plant list are.

My list does not appear to be in any kind of order.
I would have thought it would show in the order I added or possibly that it might default to alphabetical, bit I can see no order.

One other thing please - Is there an automatic default in the section for Private/Ready/Show?
Rather than the choices:
Show it, but it's not yet ready for trade. = Show
Show it an make it available for trade. = Ready
Don't show this publicly yet = Private

It would be nice to see the words that will actually appear on our list. Could that section be revamped possibly to:

Available = Public; not available for trade
Not available = Public; not available for trade.
Private= Not visible to the public

Edited because of spelling error.

Good feedback, everything, thanks. I'll be addressing a lot of these early this week.

greene said:For now I can only see my own list. When and how will we be able to see the lists of other people?

At some point I'll make it so you can view other people's lists.

greene said:If as Dave said, any member will be able to host a swap, when and how does one obtain permission to do so?

I haven't yet figured out how that'll be handled.

You'll notice that you are not restricted to plants in the database. You can enter a plant name and it'll search the database, but you don't have to pick something.

So you could say "Daylily Strawberry Candy X Barbara Mitchell" and that'll work just fine. You can also use the comments section to enter whatever you want.

Several people mentioned that it's not showing the comment in the list view. That's because there is no limit on what you can enter into the comments. It can be very very long, and I can't show a long text field in a table like that. So I instead tell you how many words you have in the comments. I might in the future make it so if you mouse over that phrase, it'll popup a dialog box containing the actual text.

I made a link on my "custom menu bar" so I can find my swap list, but is there some other way to get there (other than going to the link in Dave's post) ? Just wondering if I'm missing something, or if there really isn't any other way at present...

I know we want to keep this simple and don't mean to suggest too many categories, but it would really be useful for there to be a box for wishes. Sometimes, if I have something special, but in very small quantity of seeds, it's fun to give them to someone who really wants them.

So in other words, I guess I'm asking for both Have and Want categories. Without a Wish box, folks might be less inclined to put that info in their comments section.

Well, the swap feature was made from the beginning to only allow entries that you actually have (since each entry is opened up as an offer.)

But the Plant Lists feature here allows you to post your Wants. Maybe we can find a way to utilize that to help people find wants.

Okay - that sounds good. But, in addition, it might be useful to be able to search for any given plant offered and/or wanted by participants of the swap. This would work especially well if, once a participant has made a trade for what he wants, he would then strike it from his Want List. For example, if I were to harvest 10 seeds of Salvia guaranitica, I would like to know who might not have found any during the window of time for swapping.

Let me know if I'm being too garbled.

Another feature I have seen elsewhere, that might be redundant in terms of the foregoing, would be to be able to list just the names of plants on one's home page - haves and wants - that an atp member could change according to whatever swaps they may be in or not. I find that easier on my eyes to peruse than some lists in the Plant Lists section that entail scrolling through page after page.

Hope I said something useful

Hi Dave! I just added a daylily cross I made to my seed list. I'd like to add a photo of the pollen parent along with the pod parent. Can we have two photos instead of just one? I'm accessing the site using my phone and I don't have an app that will collage two photos into one.

so, does that mean the pkg we're sending out then?

(I had thought it was supposed to be the commercial package from the seeds... Confused )

The idea I had in mind was that with the photo of what you're actually sending, the recipient has a better idea of what they are getting.

Maybe I should just remove the photo functionality altogether?
