I have noticed a new weed here in the last couple years. I have two spots among my flower beds where they are growing like crazy. In the past I just pulled them and that was it. Yesterday I happened to be digging out some quack grass rhizomes, and noticed that these things have runners or rhizomes like quack grass. Now I know why they weren't stopped by any pre-emergent herbicide. I have never seen a bloom on them or flower of any kind. Here are some pictures of them. Anyone know what they are called? I spent several hours digging out every bit of root that I could find yesterday.

May be a Rumex. Compare to sheep sorrel, R. acetosella.

One picture has a similar leaf, but it's only about 3 or 4 inches tall, and doesn't seem to get taller or develop any bloom.

Looks like Red Sorrel, or as my mother calls it, Sour Grass. Nasty stuff with runners underground. Can't get rid of it.

Yes, after looking at this web page, I think it's this plant. I understand it's edible, but can kill livestock if they eat too much of it. I see that there are people selling the seeds on line to unsuspecting victims.

I think that is awful, selling seeds of this!!! But, I have bought seeds of what I later found out were very invasive plants. Found out before Green Grin! and after Grumbling planting.
