I hadn't thought about that since I probably won't participate in more than one swap at a time.
I thought "not ready" meant they weren't ready to be traded for whatever reason. Maybe you can just add something in the comments reserving them for something else.

If it is marked private, I don't think anyone but you can see it. If you make it unavailable, it would be visible but since it is marked unavailable you would not be obligated to send it.

If it's marked "not public" no one else can see it. Duh.
The lists work fine if you use them properly.
Dave did an excellent job.

Not nice.

There was a comment made previously that everything on our lists had to be sent in, so I'm clarifying how things are going to work. I'm new to this 'Piggy Swap' idea and how it's going to take shape here.

The above is correct. If you mark it as private, nobody sees it at all. If you mark it as "not ready" then people can see it, but nobody can request it through the system. Only those marked as ready will be available (and thus can be spoken for.)

Okay. I'm probably being overly cautious, but I don't want someone to see something and have the expectation that something simply marked 'not ready' will be ready later. I didn't get a ton of feedback on how people are using the different statuses (thank you to the couple of people who did, though!) so I wanted to be sure. Not trying to irritate anyone, I'm just suddenly feeling uncomfortable with not knowing exactly how this all works for sure....it feels so tenuous being the first swap and so many new ideas...I just don't want to 'break' anything, if you know what I mean. ('Breaking' in terms of uncovering bugs is one thing, but 'breaking' in terms of misunderstanding or doing something wrong that upsets other members is different.)

DND, I'm pretty sure no one will take away your birthday or anything for making a "mistake" in the swap -- I'm pretty sure that most or all of us will get confused about something, somewhere in the course of the swap Smiling

I wouldn't worry about it. This is going to be new even to those of us who have been through The Piggy Swap a few times. Although this has a lot of similarities the TPS it's still going to be a little different. Dave is setting up a brand new snazzy trade system that none of has seen and will have to learn together. By the way this is not The Piggy Swap, that's Ella's show. I think we need to come up with a new name for it.

DnD, I used "Not Ready" or "Unavailable" for seeds I PLAN to offer but not yet split and labelled.

I felt guilty when I reduced the number of offers of one thing, as if someone was waiting with bated breath for my two old pkts of some vegetable, but I think that's silly. It ain't a promise until the swap starts.

I've been keeping a paper list of how many pkts of each thing I have "ready to go".
Then I mark my paper list with the number offered to the Beta Swap.
Like: HAVE 9 OFFER 5

That's how I reserve some for the "First Swap" after the "Beta Swap".

(P.S. I used to have two Thai Fighting Fish, but no more. How can I enter a Beta Swap with no Betas?)

Eventually I'll mark up the paper again with any pkts NOT taken during the Beta Swap.

I figure that my pieces of paper serve some of the same purpose as Dave's eventual feature for tracking what we HAVE as well as what we OFFER.

During initial development, StickyNotes and pieces of paper have many valid uses!

I do something similar. I use the "not ready" for anything I need to:

Package or repackage
Add info to the plant database
Can't decide how many to offer

I have every intention of moving all my "not ready" seeds to available before the actual swapping begins.

I keep those seeds separate from the ones ready to go. I also write down what I have on my not ready list and cross them off as I make them available.

I made a copy of my seed offering list in my document program as a 'Check List'. They are all packed up and ready to go.

You all might get a laugh out of this. I did. This morning I was at the computer working on my seed list and my dh was sitting next to me at his computer. I guess he was talking to me but I didn't hear anything until he said "Blah blah blah seeds." Rolling on the floor laughing Luckily he has a sense of humor, and he knows how to get my attention. I need to mess up, then. I used to painfully pull up cocklebur until I learned that variety was native. And really, we do not get much more than we had when we tried getting rid of it. I had one pokeweed.... once and left it alone for the birds. It died. Sad

Hilarious!

Sunday night, I was woken up by the sound of something rattling, and for some reason I thought it was seeds. I must've shifted or something, when my husband asked why I was awake. "I heard something rattling." He said he was getting a melatonin. Yesterday I asked him if this really happened since it seemed dream-like. It did. When I told him I thought I heard seeds rattling, he bust out laughing.
