I thought this was kind of neat. One of the sets of leaves on my kalanchoe milottii is coming out with smooth edges. I'm curious to see if they remain smooth because, normally, the edges are ridged very early on (see second picture for comparison of another set of leaves).

Has anyone else ever seen something similar happen with their ridged-edge plants? How did yours end up? Any idea what caused it? Just random genetic mutation?

Yes, have seen that with my other Kalanchoes..either the edges forms smooth first when it initially forms or if it is supposed to have some variegation or some marbling or spots, it will show and come out better later as it matures and gets better lighting and growing conditions.

I have about 18 kinds of Kalanchoe and have observed that as plants mature, the scallop-edge ones develop more pronounced scalloping, if the light is bright enough. While inside over winter, in much lower light, some can start making rounded leaves with no scalloping on the edges. When that happens, the leaves also point down at the tip instead of up. I haven't observed that on K. millotii in particular, but put a pic of K. blossfeldiana doing it here:

This plant is just going gangbusters with the new, thin, smooth-edged leaves. I am still puzzled by this. Confused Sticking tongue out The other stems of the kalanchoe are putting out normal, thick, toothy-edged leaves at a steady rate.

Does anyone know if each stem is a new plant or part of the original plant? I don't want to dig it out to find out.

Hmm. It's hard to tell... but it almost looks like a bloom stalk? Can you get a closer picture?

I didn't even think about that! I'll try to get a picture tomorrow when there is some daylight.

May be it's getting ready to bloom. Check out this one for comparison:

I'm so excited! I have no idea what color to expect ams that makes it all the more exciting! I wonder when it will bloom.

Thank you, Beth, for noticing! The top of the plant isn't visible to me when it's on the ledge, so it didn't occur to me to look down in the leaves that are forming. Yet there the buds are!

Hurray! Hurray!

You're welcome! I wasn't entirely sure, but figured it was worth a guess! I'd like to see pictures again once the flowers open. Hurray!

You should add your pictures to the database! :D

Things are good, but slow. I see what looks like white petals forming:

I'm eagerly (but patiently) waiting for it to bloom. Smiling

It bloomed the other day but the picture is on my husband's camera and I still need to get him to send it to me. I took one on my phone, but my hubby has an iPhone with the Olloclip, so it zooms in much better. I hope to post it soon! (The flower itself isn't terribly exciting, but the fact that it bloomed and that I have a close-up is!)

Wow! Nice pics. I think I can see pollen grains and I know I can see tiny hairs on the petals. Super!!
