They don't all do it, but I can't really answer whether they might not all have the possibility under certain circumstances. Some do seem more likely to prolif. One that I know typically does it is 'So Lovely'. Prolifs are similar to what spider plants (Chlorophytum) do and the latter are somewhat related to daylilies (same plant Order, different Family).

Sue - Thank you! I never thought about Chlorophytum. I have them growing almost wild around my borders and they constantly make prolifs!

I had thought through experience that certain daylily cultivars are more prone to making prolifs than other cultivars. I would love to make a list of cultivars that tend to do that.

Let me start a list of cultivars that are producing prolifs in my garden:

Red Volunteer - 1 prolif
Gleber's Top Cream - 1 prolif

These two are on my top 10 favorites list and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to have more of both of them. Big Grin Thumbs up

I also have a few seedlings producing prolifs as well. Most are Spider form seedlings. Parents (genetics) are:

Laughing Clown
Instant Graffiti

And of course the odd growth seedling has these parents:

Galaxy Explosion
Lily Munster

Well, just in time for this post I was out in the garden and made a list of the plants currently showing prolifs.
Carlotta, Lady Neva, Buttered Popcorn, and Orange Velvet. This is not an inclusive list I had some earlier ones, but these are just the ones I saw this morning.

I have a couple of those as first years, Larry. I'll watch them next year in hopes of prolifs!

Here are photos of the prolifs I harvested and planted back on July 7th 2016, there were nine pots of them and this is what they look like today.
A broad view of them all:

None of them had much root development, just little nubs, and I just cut them and put them in pots full of my own compost, nothing special. Just potted and put in a shady spot and kept watered.

cybersix,
I would suggest moving them to the shade till they get a little more established, I think you have some pretty strong sun in your area. I am amazed at the difference in being in the sun and being in the shade when working in the garden even in the early morning, so I know a plant without roots and going through some stage of shock can use a break from the sun beating down on it.

One CV that isn't a spider, but has produced a prolif or two this year is, 'Sweet Dixie'.

I do have one picture to share currently. It is 'Embers of Vesuvius'

Of course, a NOID, South Sea Enchantment, Lady Neva and Hush Little Baby, are the potted ones.
I also got an earlier prolif from Carlotta, I just planted it directly in the garden in one of the wettest spots down there, it was literally a puddle of water after I dug 'Prairie Blue Eyes' up. I just filled the puddle in with compost and pushed the prolif down into it, it is still growing.
'Carlotta' proliferation planted in the garden spot vacated by 'Prairie Blue Eyes'. I just dug up 'Prairie Blue Eyes' because in just a year it had multiplied enormously, so I potted some and move some to a spot not quite so nourishing.

I have not posted on this thread because I am too busy cutting proliferations off of daylily scapes. I have never seen so many prolifs as this year. We have a seedling bed where 40 or 50 of the new seedlings bloomed this year for the first time. I have cut 50 proliferations so far and there are still several left on blooming, reblooming, and scapes with pods to get later. Most of them have proliferations and many have at least 2. I started on another seedling bed and cut over 20 from the first year seedlings in that bed. We are cutting prolifs off of our registered daylilies as well and from the looks of things will have a hundred from them. I need a full bed for the 200 or so proliferations we will plant this year.
I don't know what is going on here. The rebloom and proliferations are something like I have never seen before. I have new baby scapes just starting this week on several plants, both seedlings and registered ones. It is almost 100 degrees and we are inches below normal rainfall since April. Last year we had over 35 inches of rain by this date. This year we have had 14 inches. May and June are our wettest average months and we got 2 inches of May rain and 1.1 inch in June. It has rained one time in July. The daylilies don't seem to care. Hope they don't all die after such a performance.

kidfishing,
It appears not to be just there, but all over I am hearing people say they have never seen a year like this for prolifs and for rebloom. I just noticed that 'Peacock Maiden' has 5 new scapes, after already reblooming.

learning all I can of Daylilies and
Daylilies
Soooo these are my prolifs from my Ditch Lily Daylilies, I'm new to all this but after reading the forums here about prolifs I was estatic about finding Prolifs. I call them the ditch lilies because that's what my grandma called them, My mother calls them Kwanzos. All I know is there are oodles of them planted around a pecan tree and they are all tall and orange. And I also plucked some seed pods as they dried out and started popping open on their on. Imma a novice , don't judge to hard..lol

Sheri, if you still have flowers on your ditch lilies can you post a photo? I've never seen prolifs in either the ditch lily (Hemerocallis fulva 'Europa') or 'Kwanso'. 'Europa' rarely sets seeds and 'Kwanso' (a double flower)' cannot set seeds because it doesn't have normal reproductive parts.

I am wondering if it is a survival mechanism where by the plants are trying to reproduce even more than normal because of the demanding growing conditions, i.e., drought and excessive heat. If the mother plant doesn't survive, there would be proliferations and seed to replace her.

Just a thought.
