This one was mixed in with some S. 'Plum Rose' I received. When young it looked just like 'Plum Rose'. As it matured the color started to vary from the rest and it developed an unusual center. It remains sort of closed, looking like a tiny head of cabbage. It has one offset that is larger than the rest and that offset has the same strange center.

Can you post a photo of Plum Rose beside the above semp Chris. That really is interesting. I wonder if it could be a sport?

Sure, I'll try to do that after work today. I wonder if all the offsets from that one will have the odd center?

Hey there Chris. I have a 'Rose Queen' with a cabbage like center, too. I can't remember if I traded one with you early this year. Blinking
Sorry, I don't "pretty up" my plants for photos. They are in large mulched beds with other perennials. *Blush*

Boy Sandi, that sure does look like the same plant! I'm pretty sure I ordered Rose Queen too, but I'll have to do some more checking. Maybe this one got stuck in the wrong bag. But I don't remember having any other ones looking like this. Time to investigate!

Here is a link to Rose Queen on Horst Dheim's site. http://www.semperhorst.de/Dieh...
You can tell these photos are showing plants that are not being stressed by their growing conditions. But still show the same basic form. I think both of you are in growing conditions right now that somewhat stress the plants so they hold those inner petals close the protect the rosette from heat and drought. Will be interesting to see how they do when the weather becomes more moderate.
Would both of you post your photos to the database so we can keep a watch on them to see how the morph? Smiling

Chris I noticed that you posted a photo of it in June.

Sandi thank you for adding the photo of S. 'Rose Queen' to the database. If you can take more photos as it changes in appearance that would be great to see.

Faye, mine has a bunch of chicks, so remind me in the spring that you would like one!

Lynn, I'll make a note and add it to the database when I can make some time. Thanks for the link. I'm sure mine is stressed right now with the wacky weather.
