Pinks, magentas, velvets, ruffles, oh my Drooling Lovey dubby

Lucy, I'm nervous, this is my first pod period. The other was dug into or boarded(don't know it I said or spelled that correct), so I removed and destroyed it.

Brad thank you for the advice. I think she's reached max swell at this point. May also be safer at this point. A lot of verment is looking for food now in my yard since the cool down here. Hopefully in a few years I'll have a pic to show.

Your really on to something great from this view point. Keep it up and hopefully you see even better increases, stregnth, and uniqueness that'll make you consider registering at least one at some point down the road. Group hug WE WOULD EXCLUSIVELY SUPPORT YOUR WORK Group hug

I like 1 and 2 (drama on those falls!), but my favorite is 7. Think the tipping point is that beard color. Lovey dubby

My pick would be #4 and #7. #4 has a popular color pattern that has been done many times but it is one that I like a lot. #7 is muted and colorful at the same time. I cannot imagine burning those beauties.
John Van Hook also composts his seedlings and some of them are to die for. I would break my heart to lose them.

#3 looks a lot like Anything Goes. I like the color of the standards on #1, but overall like #2 better.

I love them all, but I agree with Mary Ann, #2 and #6 are my favorites.

Gabe -- "boarded"? Are you making reference to Iris borers?

Oh -- ok -- well, borers attack the rhizome, not the pod. I don't know what attacks pods -- but some of the seeds may be salvageable. Others who work with pods can give you better information.

Another of Joe's that got me excited was (Double Platinum) it is a wonderful little pink and has a nice pedigree so I was curious what would happen when you mixed it with some of Barry's plants Big Grin this cross only had 8 plants and 3 bloomed but all 3 of them were unique I don't have anything else like them Hurray!

(Double Platinum X Pagan Knight) 13-63
Really enjoyed this one ...was expecting pinks and got this Lovey dubby you can never have enough yellows in the garden they go good with everything and this one was perfect it seemed to bloom a long time it was on the smaller side and stood up well in our heavy rains this spring.

This one I think had some frost damage never got much of a stalk out of it, bloomed down in the foliage and only had 4 buds but every flower had turquoise streaks on the falls which really got me excited hoping it's not a fluke and shows up again next year.

Brad, you're really showing us some unique stuff now- I mean seriously introduction worthy traits! As a daffodil freak, I'm obsessed with combining pink and yellow, and you're coming very close. And the turquoise you have brought to a TB is certainly unique and exciting to my eye! Please share, how are you proceeding with these seedlings?

In addition to those turquoise streaks, that beard is to die for! Sticking tongue out That first one has an awesome shape, and such nice ruffles. I can see that I had better get Double Platinum! Hilarious!

Oh.My.Goodness.Gracious. Blinking I WANNNNT that first one!!!!!

Turquoise on a TB? Wow, eager to see what happens with the next bloom cycle. Thumbs up The beard in that third photograph looks like a hedgehog. (I blame the pumpkin pie for breakfast making me see things Hilarious! ).

I soooo like this one, too. Blue and yellow is one of my favorite color pairings. I like that the yellow here is an old-gold shade, rather than strident chrome-y yellow. The beard color is a great complement to the other colors in the bloom.

Happy Thanksgiving !!! everybody hope you all are having a relaxing day thanks for taking the time to comment on my pictures its encouraging to know they are so well received here. Smiling

Out of this group I kept numbers 1, 2 & 6 with 6 being my favorite because of the form on it while the other ones had interesting patterns the standards were open and floppy that is a trait I don't care for in Iowa we have strong spring storms and constant wind I want flowers that will stand up and not fall apart in the rain. Smiling

Gabriel.. You can spray the pods with insecticide to keep bugs off and it won't hurt a thing..

Jane.. I can't leave the foliage laying around I have to either toss it in the dumpster or burn it the fire method is quicker Smiling

Bonnie... Thanks Smiling for the kind words maybe 1 day something here will get a name but for now I just like playing in the dirt and the excitement of watching them bloom and wondering what would happen if I crossed Plant A to Plant B Smiling That's awesome you have some seedlings from the bee's they were busy this year for me as well and created a few pods on some of the seedlings and I thought well we have plenty of space now so I'll see what grows from them but there were no seeds inside any of the pods. I hope you do some crosses this spring they are well worth the wait nothing like waking up everyday during bloom season finding something new of your own blooming for the 1st time it is a fun process Smiling

Sherry.. Thanks !! and Yes Joe is definitely a mentor for me and as you know he is just a all around good person and I enjoy his company every spring, wish I was a little closer would bug him a little more Big Grin I certainly am trying to use the good majority of his plants for form when working in my garden and mainly because they grow well for me and I know if he gives something a name it is special, so I try to take his newest creations and mix them with other garden favorites because I think it makes them better.

A good example would be his ( Going Big Time)... ( Polite Applause X Gypsy Lord)...he took a awesome plant (Gypsy Lord) kept that color but added bubble ruffles to it Big Grin this is another one of his I made a bunch of crosses too this year because I liked the pedigree and growth habits here. I have seen a glimpse of what's coming remember anything that was introduced this year, more than likely bloomed for the 1st time 6 or more years ago for him Big Grin he is way ahead probably working on 2 or 3 generations past this years intro's already not to mention all the siblings that never got names because they were short a bud or some other small thing. In my opinion any time you mix his plants with others they get better another couple that I thought were Outstanding intro's this year from others that has his plants in the pedigree were from Superstition ( Velvet Valentine) which comes from (Bowled Over) and Napa's ( Splendid Spring) which come from (Picture Book) both were incredible.

I don't get on the Iris Lovers Facebook while I enjoyed the pictures from people on there the conversations seem to be more arguing than anything and with the little spare time I have when getting on the computer would much prefer visiting with you guys Big Grin

Velvet valentine is lovely. I really am in favor of the first & ruffled white & yellow above. More interesting than plain yellow or plain white. I like some ruffled, but not an exaggeration.

I lost my role of pictures of SDBs when the film came off the sprockets. I need to learn to use my digital camera & then learn how it get in on the computer.
