Thinking the same thing, Dahtzu, nothing at all like sending a letter. And deadlines. There will be deadlines.
But it is a fun idea. I have time constraints or I would be right in the middle of it. Maybe next time.

Postage should be under $5.00 I'm trying to keep everything light. I could probably put most of this into a large padded envelope, but one of the items is a bit bulky...light but bulky, that's why the box. Let me check usps.com tomorrow and get an approximate cost of mailing the box and will see what happens. If I can keep it under $5.00, would that work with everyone else? I, as well as a lot of you, know that the economy sucks and we all need to watch our pennys, so let's wait and see what we can do with this.

Becky, your description sounds right on the mark! I participated in a couple of Garden Round Robins on DG and it was great fun! There were a few times where some participants didn't pack breakables securely and a few things did get broken during the travels but when we found something broken we just removed it, took out the item(s) we wanted and replaced with item(s) of equal or greater value. If someone had "extras" they would add them to the box as well. There were all sorts of things in the RR Box ... from packets of seeds, kitchen towels, bird houses, wind chimes, garden tools, little pots, hand made garden signs, little ceramic pot sitter critters etc.

How the Round Robin worked was the Host/Hostess collected all names/addresses of participants through d-mail, typed up a list of the participants names/addresses putting herself last on the list. Hostess packs the original/start box with a bunch of goodies and places the name/address list in the box and ships to the first person on the list. The first recipient takes out what she wants, adds item(s), marks her name off the list and sends the box on to the next person in line and so on. The last person who gets the box removes/replaces items, then sends it back to the hostess. Everyone just needs to remember to replace the name/address list in the box before mailing it!

Postage has gotten so expensive. If you use a regular box the postage amount will vary depending on the weight of the box as each person removes/replaces items. It would result in some folks paying more for postage. You might want to consider one of the Flat Rate postal boxes, medium or large (which isn't all that large). That way each person would be paying the same exact amount for shipping, making it fair for all. Postage for the Small Flat Rate Box is $10.95, Medium Flat Rate $10.95 and Large Flat Rate is $14.95.

I'm not joining in on this one ... too much going on this summer but I know y'all will have a ball. It's always so exciting, waiting and wondering what goodies you will find when you open the box!

Oops, I guess I was typing out my long description while Sally was posting. It would be perfect if it were possible to keep it at $5.00 but depending on the weight of what other's add, postage could end up being a lot more than $5.00.

I also don't think you can re-ship a flat rate box. If it's used a second time, you pay by weight and distance; pretty sure of that.

I have you added Sheila!

The flat rate boxes are free which is nice. I plan on doing a small flat rate. Lin, you have 2 of the same price. I thought there was one around $6. Maybe Sally will find out the $5.00 would work.

Thank you Lin for the clear description... I have been writing up a little letter to go in the box which I will send to Sally since she is starting it off.

Lin, thanks for the perfect description of how a round robin works. It makes it fair to each participant. I would be afraid to ship anything in the padded envelope, cause the glass and wood items would crush, I would think. If we all (that are on the list) ask our mail carrier or post office for the same size box, in advance, (which ever we all decide on in the beginning), then we will have a new empty box all ready to transfer and add to when it gets to us. Our mail carriers will pick them up or we can just drop them at the post office.

This is going to be fun. Yet another way to get more craft items and pass on those that are in great shape, but we just aren't using.

I just picked up both a small and medium flat rate box. Small flat rate is $5.20, medium $10.95 and large $14.95. The small box is very small. The items I currently have will not fit in there. Let me know if you all want to stick with the small box and I will choose new items to fit. Smiling
