I think it was in the fall, but I'm not sure. And the USDA is trying to convince me that we're one zone warmer than we were. HA! (5 lovely, cold degrees this a.m.)

Planting them in the fall could have been the problem. Try again, but plant in the spring, so they have time to adjust. I could send you some in the spring to try out.

Most welcome Lynn. PD carries a number of species and guarantees healthy plants.

Woofie, PlantsDelight carries Cyclamen that are hardy in Zone 4. I do agree with Lynn though, best to plant in the spring to give them the best shot at putting down strong healthy roots.

So many people have different experiences and success with these, even within the same zone. So other factors can easily make a difference here. Don't know what species you tried, Woofie, but I was just reading a bit on a Swedish forum about cyclamen and further up north (I'm in the south) many had positive experiences with Cyclamen purpurascens . True in one sense it may not be as easy to cultivate as C hederifolium but the extra hardiness could be worth it. There was also many that had planted late in autumn with very disappointing results.

I've been looking through the links, clearly there is no definite yes or no to what will survive, I'll have to experiment and try to buy in the spring but at least I've got the resources from all the links. 😀 At this point I just want one to survive color won't matter.

eBay also sells plants for a decent price I'm just wondering if I can trust them...

Keith, sometimes you have to read all the way through to find what info you want.

The plants are usually zone listed and most of the links I post have as much info you request as I can find.

Here is the label from the nurseries, no plant zone or name listed. What I'm saying is I cannot go in the store and guess if it's cold Hardy, labels don't say and cyclamen leaves look the same to me ha ha. I'll have to order online.

Hi Keith, give me a shout out in the spring. I'll see if I can send you some young tubers.

The tag pretty much lets you know that those are probably not hardy. It says, "Average room temperature".

The reading I was referring to was the info on species included in the links above. This link is for a nursery in Ohio, Hirt's, that sells on E-Bay. Notice that there is a link to the actual nursery... and that they have a very high satisfaction rating...that is a pretty good sign that they are legit.

Hirt's also sells on Amazon

I find that they love the leave litter. And wow, that look awesome for this time of year. Very exciting to see.

Anyone here know if Florists' Cyclamen want fertilizer and if so how often. Speaking of cyclamen, that is. I have a few indoors that I've had for several years. Hard to find much information on caring for them. Most "experts" recommend tossing them after they're done blooming. Heh, right. Me? Not happening!

My daughter had her florist's cyclamen for many years. She kept it in her kitchen window (north facing). Never fertilized it and it bloomed year round.

My wife, was a professional painter who passed away almost 8 years ago had a florists cyclamen on the window sill of her atelier ( it ended up as a model for some of her watercolors) and last fall it was the first time it did'nt sprout. That cyclamen has been with us for at least 15 years. I'll wait still this coming fall ( its summer now) before deciding that it is gone. Now its kept away from sun and quite dry. We repotted the plant about three times in its life span improving the soil by adding compost and changing it to a larger size pot. The bulb/corm? has grown to the size of 3 to 4 inches in diameter by develping side corms that are totally inseparable from the initial main plant. We both loved this particular plant very much. Florist cyclamen are originated from our ancestral homeland in the Anatolian plateu. It definitely is one of our reminders of where we've come from. The atelier didn't have central heating and only had some warmth during winter while she was painting because she had her wood stove burning in the evenings which was when she would paint on a dayly basis. That was enough to keep happy a remarkable group of house plants. The others were Fuchsias. Both need cool winters to do well. Just above freezing. Somewhere in the 40ºF.

Arturo thank you for sharing your story. I would love to see a photo of it if it comes back. Maybe you could take a photo of one of her paintings of the cyclamen? I would love to see it.

Thumb of 2016-01-12/hampartsum/315bd7 I tried to digitalized one of the watercolors that is within its frame. Unfortunately the image is blurry but it quite well depicts the character of this so loyal plant. Arturo

I've thought my oldest one was dead a couple of times, but so far it has kept coming back. Had to rescue it from a friend who was helping me clean up my back porch...she thought it was dead and was going to toss it. That one is happily blooming on the window sill right now.
That is a lovely watercolor. Smiling
