Ok. Would ya'll give me a brief tutorial on how ya'll are posting the squirrel pics? Mine keep coming up with the writing over the picture, and ya'lls don't have that.

I'm getting my images from a Google search, then saving them to my computer to upload to my post. I'm experiencing user error...

Thanks!

First, images fond on Google are copyrighted to someone, so unless you have expressed permission from that someone to use their photo, you can't post it here. It's the same as stealing pictures.

Second, the writing is the watermark, which you can change in your profile.

I tip my hat to you.

Trish, I'd be happy to give the Google credit to the originator of the pictures. Not trying to steal -- just borrowing from the net. So, tell me how to post the credit for where the pictures come from, and I'll do it!

Thanks!

Well, that's the thing- unless you ask permission *before* you post it, you've taken it without permission. Which is....the definition of stealing Whistling

It seems like no big deal to repost a picture, but it is the property of someone else. I'm sure you (or anyone else) isn't intending to do anything wrong, but copyright laws are something that we should all become familiar with.

There are some pictures which are in the public domain, which means that they are available for others to use as long as credit is given. You'd have to know that the photo falls under that category. Just doing a random search and getting a picture probably isn't going to turn up a public domain picture, but rather a copyrighted one.

Over the years, we've worked hard to protect our user's copyrighted photographs around the internet, and we've also had our share of angry people who had their picture taken without permission and reposted to one of our sites.

Sorry to be the bad news bringer!

I'm glad you pointed that out and clarified it, Trish. Thanks. (I've been involved in copyright legal stuff, no fun.)

Linda, there are public domain pics through Wiki if you want to check those. Be careful though, some are still copyrighted, others are okay to use.

Here ya go. Somewhere down the text is a link to Wicki Common , a place that hosts public domain pics.
