'Zoe Allegra' is a semi-evergreen tetraploid introduced in 2008 by Ted Petit. His hybridizing work is done at Le Petit Jardin in McIntosh, Florida. More can be found on his website: http://www.petitdaylilies.com/...

Zoe Allegra is a mid-season bloomer. It is pod fertile with 8 registered children: http://garden.org/plants/paren...

This plant can be found in the ATP Plant Database at:
Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Zoe Allegra') .

Please join in, if you own this plant! We would love to know more! I award an acorn for performance information posted to this thread.

Also, please consider adding a "Local Report" to the ATP Plant Database! Thank you!

'Zoe Allegra' does very well here on the southeast coast of Louisiana. It is both pod and pollen fertile and makes lots of seeds.

I prefer tallish daylilies, so it blooms a little short for my tastes but it does hold its blooms well above the foliage.

I believe its patterning is at its best during cooler weather as the patterning tends to disappear as the temperature rises. BUT, with heat, it morphs into a bloom with prominent teeth. A one word description for this cultivar would be "reliable".

Zoe, Zoe, Zoe. I have such a love-hate relationship with this one. The blooms are gorgeous but she's given me fits since planting her. I bought a DF of ZOE ALLEGRA from Bill Maryott some years ago. She bloomed late in the summer that she was planted and everything seemed to be going very well. But then winter set in. I was pretty much convinced she was a gonner. Spring rolled around and everything looked like I had put boiling water on it and left it to sit and die. I wrote it off as one of those loses you take in the north when you bring in southern plants. But then sure enough up pops some little green foliage and about a month later you'd have never known there was any doubt. I was thrilled. But no blooms. Ok, I thought, maybe the stress of the winter and having to acclimate was the problem. I've seen it in other plants before and it's not unusual. Next year, the same thing. Year after...again! :grumbling:

In the meantime the plant went from 2 fans to 7 so she kept tempting me. But then...this year! I was once again thinking I had lost fans (you would think by now I would know...but no I was still worried). Eventually this year A scape. Then another...AND ANOTHER! She bloomed for me and then rebloomed twice. It was great! I'm hoping she's settled or whatever but who knows.

The blooms for me are a nice mixture. The pattern in the eye will show up most of the time, other times it will just have magnificent color banding. The plant is pod and pollen fertile and in my experience seems to be more rust resistant than average. Of course, she's hardy to zone 5b though it would seem there may be a period she need to acclimate.

I acquired a double fan of Zoe Allegra this Fall and she bloomed a few weeks after transplant in a new raised bed. Only had a few blooms. I think there were 4 total. Beautiful blooms that opened perfect - each one! Loved the bloom colors, not a tall scape but still above the foliage, and seemed to be happy in her new home. But then, about a month after she bloomed, the leaves began turning yellow and I was worried she was dying. After reading James's post, I am encouraged that she requires a dormant/rest period after her bloom show.

James - That is interesting what you wrote about this cultivar looking like you were losing her. I, too, thought when the leaves turned yellow, that the plant was dying. But now I am seeing a little bit of new, green foliage emerging from the middle. My initial thought upon seeing that was to check for dormancy. It is almost like she goes dormant, leaves die, and then she springs to life again. You confirmed what I am seeing. She is an interesting cultivar that just may need time to settle in wherever she is planted. I do love her bloom and colors. Such a pretty bloomer! Glad to know she may multiply nicely, too! Thank you for your thorough evaluation explanation. Thumbs up

I acquired 3 fans of Zoe Allegra in September 2015 which were potted up. In October it was transplanted into a raised bed. It bloomed in December. (See my post above.)

It bloomed the following year (2016) in early June. I did not take stats on it. But it appears to have produced 2 scapes with 4-5 buds per scape. In the photos taken at that time, it appears there are still 3 fans. It is currently Fall 2016 and I checked it and found only 2 fans. No telling what happened to the 3rd fan. It is a beautiful bloomer and I hope that it thrives, improves with age, and adapts to my climate and zone. I sure hope I don't lose it.
