Gasteria pseudonigricans - where would this be placed in the database?

Good question! I found this:

Gasteria pseudonigricans Haworth 1827

"This doesn't appear to be a vaild name despite this succulent plant appearing in many collections. Could be G. subnigricans which may in turn be a form of G. brachyphylla or just an attractive plant of garden origin."
http://succulent-plant.com/fam... (page down near the bottom)

and also:

The Plant List:

"Gasteria pseudonigricans Haw. is an accepted name. This name is the accepted name of a species in the genus Gasteria (family Xanthorrhoeaceae).

The record derives from Tropicos (data supplied on 2012-04-18) which reports it as an accepted name (record 18402513).

Synonyms: No synonyms are recorded for this name."

and:
Gasteria pseudonigricans (Salm-Dyck) Haw.
National Status: Status and Criteria: Not Evaluated
Justification: Taxonomic problem/doubtful taxon.

In view of the references to it as a "doubtful taxon," any photos of it probably should be added to the generic Gasteria entry. If you do add photos, please include the name G. pseudonigricans in the photo caption. That way, they can be moved to the correct entry if the name is ever recognized as a valid one.

I inquired at Mobot (where pic taken) and received a reply:
Gasteria pseudonigricans

I took a picture of this plant in 2013 (I think it’s the Conservatory – where cactus and relatives thereof were on display) in the month of February. I can’t seem to find anything about said plant other than obscure references not of this site (MOBOT).
I’m thinking it’s scientific designation may have evolved since 2013 and due to that I’m unable to access.
Can you help?

the response -

The name is still a valid name (see The Plant List) but it is no longer listed as being in the Garden’s plant collection. No other details were listed in our database. Sorry, we do not have any more information on this plant. It is native to South Africa and it doesn’t look like very much information is available on the web at this time.

This seems to be a case of the proverbial vicious circle. Mobot says Gasteria pseudonigricans is a valid name because it's included in The Plant List, and The Plant List says it's a valid name because it's included in Tropicos, which is the Mobot data system. Hilarious!

In general, The Plant List is not a reliable source of taxonomic information. The latest edition dates back to 2012, and even then the "new" information was largely a recapitulation of the information in the earler edition, with no new taxonomic scrutiny. The Plant List also still lists Gasteria nigricans as an accepted name, for example, although every other taxonomic database classifies it as a synonym.

I thought I remembered you saying before The Plant List wasn't timely.
Which resource do you use?
