Unknown - color isn't quite as dark as in these pics, but distinctly chocolate colored.

From a small botanical garden's conservatory filled w/ mostly tropical plants.
Thanks for any help.

It looks like one of the Cordylines, possibly Cordyline australis some are burgundy, some appear brown...

The leaves look too broad to be Cordyline australis.

It looks to be branching out at the base which Cordyline can do if damaged, but Cordyline starts to make a stem as it matures. Phormium increases by branching out at the base, there's many named varities which are dark ..

Cordyline indivisa has broader leaves but still makes a stem, there is a form 'rubra' but the form looks more like Phormium from what I can see.

Janet, my first thought was Phormium also, but the second photo does appear to have a stem. That confused me.

Hmmm, it does look to be reaching for the sky, I had trouble loading that so only checked the first one. Cordyline tend to have duller leaves than Phormium, could the plant be stretching towards light?

It's growing in a glass domed conservatory.
