SCButtercup,
You can always get a one or two grafted trees from Rinoa. She ships to US and very reasonable. This is one way to enjoy a particular bloom and watch your seedlings grow up.
This way you get both.

Thank you very much for piping in, Rick. I tip my hat to you. I was beginning to think I have been giving too much information to new adenium growers and they might be inundated all at once.

There is so much to learn about Adeniums. And of course someone new to this plant will learn about them through their own research efforts and experiences/experimentations, as well as through asking specific advice. Hands-on learning is certainly the best teacher. Thumbs up

Never, too much info KD. It all works well for everyone coming back to re-read and pick up incidentals that we may have put aside till ready.
You always give excellent and sound advice.
Nice part of this is we all learn. I may have said this before, but a instructor of mine always said. "There are no stupid questions. The only stupid question. Is one that goes unasked."

Enjoy all of this communication.

SCButtercup, hope you get those seeds on auction.

*Blush* Rick, you are too kind...giving me credit for giving excellent and sound advice. But really, I try not to give advice. I pass on information that I have discovered and that is useful to me. And I share my experiences relative to my own plants.

We are all still learning and sharing information about these amazing trees. And I am happy to share knowledge as well as successes I have attained. Umm...I try to share my flops too. Whistling

We all advice based on our own trials and tribulations and this is what makes it interesting to me.
For the time I have been active here. I have always had a great deal of enjoyment hearing of everyone's progress, attempts, problems and success's. After all this is much of what we are taught as children.
Try, try again until you get it right. Practice makes perfect. If you stumble and fall, get right back up.
When I started riding horses when I was young. If you got pitched of, you got right back on.

Looking forward to more stories and info.

Same here! We started with one horse when one of our daughters was 10 and begged for one. That quarterhorse was bred and we ended up with 5 horses by the time she was ready for college. I loved them, but did get bucked off into a cactus patch once while riding bareback through the desert foothills. That wasn't fun, but I was right back on that horse. It is the same with our plants and plant problems.

My poor husband and girls were kept busy pulling cactus spines out of me! I was much more careful after that!

Oh boy! The rhino beetles are active again...I found holes in the fresh potting soil of a couple of my adeniums. This is an indication that they have laid their larvae. The larvae eat the decaying matter of the soil, but will eat through roots if they are in the way.

I will spray insecticide into the holes they have made. On the other potted plants, I will place an extra layer of perlite on the surface...this seems to deter the rhinos.

Nasty buggers, these...they eat the heart of our coconut palms and will eventually kill the trees. They are very hard to control as they do not have natural enemies. They are not native here...were discovered here in 2007.
