Oh, tell me more about the ducks.
I'm building a chicken coop this summer for 2013 chicks.
I'd love a good quiet snail eating duck (or two) that would provide eggs.....

Sounds easy.
With no roosting, where do they lay eggs? Just anywhere?

Pretty much. If they lay outside somewhere you can put some fake eggs the nest. Leave 6or 8 of them and remove the duck eggs daily. A small "chicken tractor" would work even better.

I actually know what a "chicken tractor" is, but I still have a vision of a little chicken driving a Farmall... ;) LOL

I'm planning a chicken tractor for my chickens.
Duckies will be just as happy in there?

A chicken tractor is a coop with a "run" that you can move around your yard (it's on wheels) to let the chickens peck and poop in more than one spot. They can totally strip their "run" if they are restricted to one place.

...or not on wheels----ours was just a lightweight PVC frame with chickenwire wrapped around it. I only had 3 chickens, but they did a FANTASTIC job of digging out the bermudagrass that had crept under the fence from my neighbor's yard and overrun mine. And the soil was dramatically improved everywhere the tractor got moved. The eggs were wonderful, too. Unfortunataly houses were built behind us and I got worried that the jerk who moved into one of them was going to report us to the city for having them, so I had to give them up. When the sun was up, they clucked, you know--very disturbing. We aren't supposed to have "barnyard animals" although you can have a dog that barks day and night....getting off my rant now.....
