Container Solutions for Hot Climates

By Aguane
August 20, 2011

If you live in a region such as Phoenix, where the summers are very hot and potted plants struggle, try lining the interior of your ceramic pots with large sized bubble wrap. Then put the soil and plant into the pot. This helps cool the roots.

Pretty good idea, thanks for posting it. I'm using some styrofoam containers, they should help keep the plants cool too. Very hot summers here in California too.

Very interesting! I might have use for that one day. Great tip!

I suppose you leave an open space in the bottom of the bubble wrap for drainage? Thumbs up

Thanks, Mcash70! for providing a pic..... It's so hot here I just haven't been outside to set up a shot for the "tip"...
It does work. I've also lined my larger ceramic pots with sheets of stryofoam and create distance and insulation from the heat.

Year round container gardening is a real challenge in Phoenix AZ.

I had NO idea. I keep most of my potted "stuff" in filtered sun. Although not in Phoenix, we certainly have wicked hot summers.

Thank you so much for this wonderful idea!

Oh, and my plants thank you too Hurray! Thumbs up

Good tip! I think I will use that next time I make a hanging basket. Those coco liners never seem to last. Maybe there will be a tip about that one day. Love this feature.
