Saw a reference by DG Admin about their techs not able to work with "home-brewed programming" and, hence, the new changes. Whoa - no loyalty there.

I saw that as well. It seems it's fine with them to make accusations and slurs about a site developed in 2000 but not for their own subscribers and members to point out any problems or concerns with changes they've attempted to make in the last week but can't get right.

It's a mess over there...............I don't know WHY such hideous, drastic changes had to be made. And there was NOT a mention of any of it on the home page, you would have had to look at the "DG Site Updates" or whatever the name is, and look for the thread, to be aware of what was going to happen. I do not go there, I have no reason to go there. Guess I was wrong.

One thing I do like, however, that there are a few places that are private, have to be a paid member to post. I like that........"Coffee............." and I believe "Pull up a chair"............are 2 of them. There ones posting there have been there for a long time, and since we are like a small family (with quirks) we feel comfortable in posting some very personal things that not all and sundry of the site can read. You do not have that here..........I wish you did, it would make me more apt to ditch DG and be here all the time. I don't imagine anything like that can be started here.

In fact, you can create your own private multi-person threads here at ATP, using Tree-Mail. It works exactly as the threads and you can invite whoever you want into the conversation. Just address your tree mail to multiple members (separated by commas) and everyone can then participate.

I can understand the attraction of that -- but even though it may feel private, anyone who pays for a subscription can still be lurking and reading your posts, right? (Or is there some procedure for having to actually "join" those forums -- I can't remember!) At any rate, you could always open up a Cubit and actually make it private for a group of people, then you really would have control over who is reading the posts. Smiling

Nope, not wanting to do a cubit. That site did, and still does, baffle me. I consider myself a fairly intelligent person, but I never got the hang of that "spot".

this is much more user-friendly, and DG was too till this wild-a@@ switch.

For myself, I'm just waiting for my subscription to expire. Doesn't seem to be enough interest in my fave topics to keep anything going. I know it's owned by a marketing interest but how/why do they keep the site going?

@jon see what you helped inspire? Thumbs up and a great big Thank You!

@AnnaZ Every paid subscriber on DG can read everything on DG except D-mail. I read an article a couple years ago about scammers etc that pay to subscribe to sites like DG for the sole purpose of collecting info.

They collect addresses, pictures of that huge TV/media center you just got, Jewelry hubby gave you for anniversary, when you are going on vacation, what school your kids go to, and a dozen other scary things... Sometimes that is more than enough for a thief to break in your home...and steal more than possessions...they can get all sorts of identity info also. As Dave said, you can set up a very private conversation in tree-mail here and it will be much safer than subscriber forums.

Only the members of the Members group may reply to this thread.
